Bai Jingying (born 1963 [1] ) is a Chinese embroiderer from Inner Mongolia. The region had one of the lowest incomes in China, due to the impact of the climate crisis creating desertification and increasing the frequency of sandstorms, distrubing agriculture. [1] Since 2016, over 26,000 women have received training across Inner Mongolia, which has led to increased in income for 3000 women. [1] The programme also targets women with disabilities providing them with a way to earn an income from home. [2]

Bai teaches Wangfu embroidery, which she learned from her mother as a seven-year old and has historic significance for the region. [3] It was listed in 2009 as part of Inner Mongolia's intangible cultural heritage. [2] The finished pieces, such as slippers, are sold in cities and online. [3] In 2021 she was one of ten people to receive the National Poverty Alleviation Model Award. [4] [5]

Tiger-head shoes are an example of traditional Chinese folk handicraft used as footwear for children. Their name comes from the toe cap, which looks like the head of a tiger. In the North of China, people also call them cat-head shoes. In Chinese culture, tigers are regarded as auspicious; people embroider the head and the upper of the shoes with tiger or tiger-head patterns, in the hope that their children will become as robust and dynamic as tigers. Also, the vivid image of tiger-head pattern was thought to expel evil spirits to protect their children from diseases and disasters. It is a complicated work to make tiger-head shoes, there are many delicate stitch work such as embroidery, or weaving simply on the head of the shoes. The vamp is mainly coloured in red and yellow, and residents usually use thick lines to draw the outline of the mouth, eyebrow, nose and the eyes of the tiger to express its power in an exaggerated way.

The Zhangjiakou-Hohhot high-speed railway is a high-speed railway located in China. It connects Hohhot, the capital city of Inner Mongolia, to Zhangjiakou in Hebei province. The line has a length of 286 km (178 mi) as a double-tracked passenger dedicated line, with seven stations situated along its route. Construction was commenced on April 28, 2014. Connection with the Beijing–Zhangjiakou intercity railway enables high speed rail services from the central region of Inner Mongolia to Beijing, reducing the travel time between Beijing and Hohhot from nine hours to under three hours. The western section from Ulanqab to Hohhot East was opened on August 3, 2017. The section from Zhangjiakou to Ulanqab opened in December 2019.

Bai Xiangqun is a former Chinese politician who spent his entire career in north China's Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. As of April 2018 he was under investigation by the Communist Party's anti-corruption agency and the National Supervisory Commission. Previously he served as vice-chairman of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region People's Government. Bai was the second high-ranking official probed since the National Supervisory Commission was established in March 2018, behind Wang Xiaoguang, former vice-governor of Guizhou.

Xing Yun is a former Chinese politician who spent his entire career in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. A career politician in China's Communist Party-run bureaucracy, Xing rose through the ranks gradually, capping his career as the top security official of Inner Mongolia. He was put under investigation for graft in October 2018, two years after he retired. At the time, he was serving as vice-chairman of the Inner Mongolia People's Congress. He was accused of taking over 400 million yuan in bribes, and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of commutation or parole. He had the dubious distinction of having the highest recorded corrupt earnings in the history of Communist-ruled China.

Ma Ming is a former Chinese politician who spent his career in northeast China's Jilin province and the nearby Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region. He was investigated by the Communist Party of China's anti-graft agency in December 2019. Previously he served as vice chairman of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference.

Yun Guangzhong is a former Chinese politician who spent his entire career in north China's Inner Mongolia. He is of Mongol descent. As of June 2019 he was under investigation by China's top anti-corruption agency. Previously he served as party chief of the capital city Hohhot. Prior to that, he was vice-chairman of the Inner Mongolia between 2014 and 2017, party chief of Ordos City between 2011 and 2014, mayor of Ordos between 2008 and 2011, party chief of Manzhouli between 2006 and 2008, and mayor of Manzhouli between 2004 and 2006.

Hu Yifeng is a retired Chinese politician. He was investigated by China's top anti-graft agency in April 2022. Previously he served as president of Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Higher People's Court. He was a delegate to the 10th and 12th National People's Congress.
