The first 1959 Balkan basketball tournament was held in Bucharest, Romania. Four national teams from the Balkans region took part in the competition. The host Romanians also participated with a second team, their Youth Romanian National Team, but the results of those games did not count in the official tournament. The championship was won by Bulgaria.
