Balli Kalyanachakravarthy (born 7 June 1984), also referred to as Balli Kalyan Chakravarthy, is an Indian businessman and politician who has served in the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council since 2021 as a member of the YSR Congress Party. [1] Kalyanachakravarthy is from the town of Gudur in the Nellore district. [2] He co-founded the company Nihibha Online Business Private Limited in 2015. [3]

Kalyanachakravarthy's father is Balli Durga Prasad Rao, a longtime member of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly who had been elected to the Lok Sabha in 2019, representing the Tirupati constituency. His father died in office in September 2020 from a heart attack after contracting COVID-19. [4]

In 2021, Kalyanachakravarthy considered running in the by-election for his father's seat in the Lok Sabha. [2] However, Y. S. Jagan Mohan Reddy, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh, instead offered to nominate Kalyanachakravarthy as a candidate for the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council. Kalyanachakravarthy accepted the offer, and was elected unanimously by the MLAs for a six-year term on 8 March 2021. [5] He was sworn into office on 31 March 2021. [6] [7]

He was elected in a by-election to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in 1992 after the sudden death of his brother, Bhuma Sekhar Reddy, an MLA from Allagadda constituency in Kurnool district. In 1996, Reddy was the Telugu Desam Party candidate against Prime Minister P. V. Narasimha Rao in the Nandyal Lok Sabha constituency election. He served in the 11th, 12th and 13th Lok Sabhas. Reddy died in office on 12 March 2017 after a massive heart attack at his home in Allagadda.

Nagesh was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly in the 1994 election from the Boath seat, contesting as a Telugu Desam Party candidate. His father G. Rama Rao, former Minister for Tribal Welfare, was incumbent legislator of Boath at the time. G. Nagesh won the seat, obtaining 51,593 votes. He was amongst the youngest legislators in the Legislative Assembly at the time. G. Nagesh was named as Minister of State for Scheduled Tribes Welfare and Welfare of the Handicapped in the TDP state government after the election.
