Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University, Naogaon is a public university in Naogaon District. It is the second general university in Rajshahi Division after University of Rajshahi. The university was established by Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University, Naogaon act 2023 in National Parliament. [1] [2]

Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, also known by the honorific Bangabandhu, was a Bangladeshi politician, revolutionary, statesman, activist and diarist, who was the founding leader of Bangladesh. As the leader of Bangladesh, he had held continuous positions either as Bangladesh's president or as its prime minister from April 1971 until his assassination in August 1975. His nationalist ideology, socio-political theories, and political doctrines are collectively known as Mujibism.

Sayed Farooq Rahman was the chief organizer involved in toppling the Sheikh Mujib regime in Bangladesh. He was convicted and hanged on 28 January 2010 along with co-conspirators Sultan Shahriar Rashid Khan, A.K.M. Mohiuddin Ahmed, Mohiuddin Ahmed, and Mohammad Bazlul Huda in Dhaka Central Jail, Old Dhaka, for the murder of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding leader and the first president of Bangladesh. Sayed Farooq Rahman and his close ally Khondaker Abdur Rashid were the chief organisers of the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman on 15 August 1975. He was 2IC of the 1st Bengal Lancers Regiment of the Bangladesh Army who led a group of junior army officers in order to overthrow the regime of Sheikh Mujib and install Khondaker Mushtaque Ahmed as president of Bangladesh.
The National University is a public collegiate university of Bangladesh that was established in 1992 by an Act of Parliament as an affiliating university of the country to impart graduate and post-graduate level education to the students through its affiliated colleges, schools and professional institutions throughout the country. The number of colleges under the NU is 2,257. Of these, 555 are government colleges. A total of 881 colleges offer honors courses. It is the Second largest university in the world in terms of enrollment. The headquarters is in Gazipur, on the outskirts of Dhaka. It was the first Center of Excellence Graduate Agricultural Institute in Bangladesh emphasizing research and extension. It is located at South Salna, in Gazipur District. It is 9.5 kilometres (5.9 mi) from Gazipur Chowrasta, just east of the Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway.
The Begum Rokeya University, Rangpur, formerly Rangpur University, is a public research university in Rangpur, Bangladesh. Founded in 2008, it is the only generally categorized university in Rangpur Division and the second public university in the region. It was named after the feminist writer and social worker Begum Rokeya.
The 7th March Speech of Bangabandhu, or the 7/3 Speech, was a public speech given by Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the founding leader of Bangladesh on 7 March 1971 at the Ramna Race Course in Dhaka to a gathering of over one million (1,000,000) people. It was delivered during a period of escalating tensions between East Pakistan and the powerful political and military establishment of West Pakistan. In the speech, Bangabandhu informally declared the independence of Bangladesh, proclaiming: "The struggle this time, is a struggle for our liberty. The struggle this time, is a struggle for our independence." He announced a civil disobedience movement in the province, calling for "every house to turn into a fortress".
The 1969 East Pakistan uprising was a democratic political uprising in East Pakistan. It was led by the students backed by various political parties such as the Awami League, National Awami Party, and Communist party of East Pakistan and their student wings, and the cultural fronts against Muhammad Ayub Khan, the president of Pakistan in protest of the oppressive military rule, political repressions, Agartala Conspiracy Case and the incarceration of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and other Bengali nationalists.

Begum Sheikh Fazilatunnesa Mujib, commonly known as Begum Mujib; and also known by her nickname Renu, was the wife of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the first President of Bangladesh. She is the mother of Sheikh Hasina, the leader of the Awami League from 2009-2024. She was killed along with her husband.
Bangladesh Maritime University (BMU) (Bengali: বাংলাদেশ মেরিটাইম বিশ্ববিদ্যালয়) was established in 2013, the 37th public university of the country. It is the first maritime university in Bangladesh, the 3rd maritime university in South Asia and the 12th maritime university in the world. It has issued its first calls for admission in December, 2016. The BSc in Oceanography program was started on 3 January 2017 at the university's temporary campus in Mirpur, as part of the first-ever launch of the Bachelor class in the university. Then in 2018, the first batch of BSc in Naval Architecture and Offshore Engineering classes started. Two more program classes started in 2019. LLB in Maritime Law and BBA in Port Management and Logistics. 2020 BSc in Maritime Fisheries first batch admission and classes start.
The non-cooperation movement of 1971 was a historical movement in then East Pakistan by the Awami League and the general public against the military government of Pakistan in March of that year. After the announcement of the suspension of the session of the National Assembly of Pakistan on 1 March, the spontaneous movement of the people started, but officially on the call of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, the non-cooperation movement started on 2 March and continued until 25 March. The movement lasted for a total of 25 days.

On 24 January 2020 in regular cabinet meeting, chaired by prime minister, agreed in principle to the Acts for the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University in Kishoreganj District. Z M Parvez Sazzad, a professor at the Department of Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) in Dhaka University, will serve as the founding vice-chancellor of the Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman University in Kishorganj for the next four years starting from 27 January 2021.
