Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre (BPATC) is a training institute for the public sector. It was founded in 1984, and is situated in Savar, Dhaka District. [1] It has teaching facilities, quarters for the officers, a mosque, and a lake. Md Ashraf Uddin is the rector of the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre. [2]

History

Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre was established on 1984. [3] The Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre was established by merging the Bangladesh Administrative Staff College, National Institute of Public Administration, Civil Officers' Training Academy, and the Staff Training Institute. [4] Foundation stone of the centre was laid in December 1981 and the centre began functioning from 28 April 1984, as an autonomous body with a Rector as its Head who is a senior Secretary to the Government. [3]

The Centre has four division units based in Chittagong Division, Dhaka Division, Rajshahi Division, and Khulna Division. [3]

In February 2009, Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre organized a seminar on 'Improving public services through total quality management' with support from Japan International Cooperation Agency. [5] At the silver jubilee celebration of the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina reminded the bureaucrats that they were servants of the public and not masters. [6] [7]

In 2010, Bangladesh Supreme Court announced plans to train judges of lower courts in the Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre and the Bangladesh Military Academy. [8]

In September 2020, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina inaugurated a 20 story building of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre in Savar. [9]

Administration

The rector (normally the rank of a Senior Secretary) is the head of the training institution, assisted by the MDS (rank of Senior Joint Secretary/Additional Secretary). [3] The rector also chairs the governing body of the BPATC School and College, a secondary school located within the precincts of BPATC. [10]

The board of governors of Bangladesh Public Administration Training Centre is under the direction of a Cabinet Minister. [3]

The Bangladesh Nationalist Party is a conservative, centre-right political party in Bangladesh and one of the major political parties of Bangladesh. It was founded on 1 September 1978 by the late Bangladeshi President Ziaur Rahman after the Presidential election of 1978, with a view of uniting the people with a nationalist ideology. Following Rahman's assassination in 1981, his widow, Khaleda Zia, had taken over leadership of the party and presided as Chairperson until her imprisonment in 2018. The 21 August 2004 Dhaka grenade attack took place at an anti-terrorism rally organised by Awami League on Bangabandhu Avenue on 21 August 2004. The attack left 24 dead and more than 500 injured. The attack was carried out at 5:22 pm after Sheikh Hasina, the leader of opposition had finished addressing a crowd of 20,000 people from the back of a truck. The attacks targeted Awami League president Sheikh Hasina. Hasina was injured in the attack.The involvement of BNP-Jamaat led government is still debated to this date.

Kabir Bin Anwar is a retired Bangladeshi civil servant. He was the 23rd Cabinet Secretary of Bangladesh Government, serving for a short period of time from 15 December 2022 until he went to post-retirement vacation 3 January 2023. Prior to that, he was Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Water Resources. Anwar is the chairperson of the Board of Directors of Centre for Environmental and Geographic Information Services. Md Sohorab Hossain is a retired Bangladeshi Civil Servant and currently serving as the Chairman of the Bangladesh Public Service Commission. He is a former Senior Secretary of the Ministry of Education.

Md. Emdadul Haque Azad is a judge of the High Court Division of Bangladesh Supreme Court.

He is a director of Saudi-Bangladesh Industrial and Agricultural Investment Company Limited. He is a director of Bangladesh Infrastructure Finance Fund Limited.

Md. Mozibur Rahman Miah is a Justice of the High Court Division of the Bangladesh Supreme Court. He was a judge of the International Crimes Tribunal-2, war crimes court for crimes committed during Bangladesh Liberation War.
