Bannside is one of the seven district electoral areas (DEA) in Mid and East Antrim, Northern Ireland. [1] The district elects six members to Mid and East Antrim District Council and contains the wards of Ahoghill, Cullybackey, Galgorm, Grange, Maine and Portglenone. [2] Bannside forms part of the North Antrim constituencies for the Northern Ireland Assembly and UK Parliament.

Contents

It was created for the 1993 local elections, where it contained five wards (Ahoghill, Cullybackey, Dunminning, Grange and Portglenone), replacing The Main DEA which had existed since 1985. For the 2014 local elections it gained an additional ward, gaining Galgorm from the abolished Ballymena North DEA.

                  Elections to Mid and East Antrim District Council, part of the Northern Ireland local elections on 2 May 2019, returned 40 members to the council using Single Transferable Vote. The Democratic Unionist Party were the largest party in both first-preference votes and seats.

                  Elections to Ballymena Borough Council were held on 5 May 2011 on the same day as the other Northern Irish local government elections. The election used four district electoral areas to elect a total of 24 councillors.
