Bao Tranchi is a Vietnamese American costume and fashion designer. [1] [2] She is best known for her work on The Greatest Beer Run Ever and Once Upon a Time in Vietnam . [3] [4]

Life and career

Tranchi was born in Saigon, South Vietnam before emigrating to the United States. [5] She graduated from Otis College of Art and Design in 1999. [6] She becomes the youngest person to be admitted into the Costume Designers Guild and worked on Charlie’s Angels and Hedwig and the Angry Inch . [7] She made her debut as a costume designer with the feature film Journey from the Fall , directed by Ham Tran in 2006. [8] She launched her own fashion label, "Bao Tranchi" in 2015. [9] Her work has been included in several publications, including Vogue, Harper's Bazaar, Elle and Women's Wear Daily. [10] [11] [12]

Tranchi was the second runner-up in the second season of Netflix's Next in Fashion . [9] Her designs have been worn by Jennifer Lopez, Ashley Graham, Nicki Minaj, Gigi Hadid, Laverne Cox and more. [13] [14] [15]

Often worn as a top and bottom set, the áo bà ba is typically a long-sleeved, button-down silk shirt with a scooped neck, paired with silk pants. The shirt is long and split at the waist sides, forming two flaps, customarily features two pockets.
