Baseball at the 1983 Pan American Games was contested between teams representing Brazil, Canada, Colombia, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Netherlands Antilles, Nicaragua, Panama, Puerto Rico, United States, and Venezuela. The 1983 edition was the ninth Pan American Games, and was hosted by Caracas.
Cuba entered the competition as the three-time defending champions, having won the gold medal in 1971, 1975, and 1979. They successfully defended their title, with Nicaragua finishing second.

The Bahamas national football team is controlled by the Bahamas Football Association; it was founded in 1967 and joined FIFA in 1968. Bahamas has never qualified for the FIFA World Cup. In 2011, they withdrew from the 2014 FIFA World Cup qualifiers after playing in the first round.
Baseball at the 1984 Summer Olympics was a demonstration sport. Although single exhibition games had been played in conjunction with five previous Olympics, it was the first time that the sport was officially included in the program, and also the first time that the sport was played in Olympics held in the United States.
