The men's basketball tournament at the 2019 Pan American Games was held in Lima, Peru at the Coliseo Eduardo Dibos from 31 July to 4 August. [1] The teams were grouped into two pools of four teams each for a round-robin preliminary round. The top two teams in each group advanced to a single elimination bracket. [1] Argentina won the gold medal, its second gold in Pan American basketball, after defeating Puerto Rico in the championship
A total of eight men's teams qualified to compete at the games. The top seven teams at the 2017 FIBA AmeriCup have qualified. The host nation Peru was barred from participating by FIBA, following sanctions imposed on the Peruvian Basketball Federation. [2] Venezuela took the vacated berth.

At the start of tournament, all eight participating countries had up to 12 players on their rosters.
In the first round of the competition, teams are divided into two pools of four teams, and play follows a round robin format with each of the teams playing all other teams in the pool once. Teams are awarded two points for a win, and one point for a loss.
Following the completion of the pool games, the top two teams from each pool advance to a single elimination round consisting of two semifinal games, and the bronze and gold medal matches. Losing teams compete in classification matches to determine their ranking in the tournament.

The Puerto Rico national basketball team represents Puerto Rico in men's international basketball competitions, it is governed by the Puerto Rican Basketball Federation, The team represents both FIBA and FIBA Americas.
The Mexico national basketball team represents Mexico in men's international basketball competitions, The team has made five appearances in FIBA World Cup, The governing body of the team is the Asociación Deportiva Mexicana de Básquetbol (ADEMEBA).
The 2009 FIBA Americas Championship, later known as the FIBA AmeriCup, was the continental championship held by FIBA Americas, for North, Central and South America and the Caribbean. This FIBA AmeriCup championship served as a qualifying tournament for the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey. Each of the top four finishers in the quarterfinal round robin qualified for the World Championship.
The 2013 FIBA Americas Championship for Men, later known as the FIBA AmeriCup, was the qualifying tournament for FIBA Americas, for the 2014 FIBA World Cup, in Spain. The 2019 Men's Junior Pan-American Volleyball Cup was the fourth edition of the bi-annual men's volleyball tournament. Eight teams participated in this edition held in Tarapoto, Peru. Cuba defeated Canada in the final match to win the tournament. As Cuba had already qualified for the 2019 Men's U21 World Championship through the NORCECA championship and Canada qualified through world ranking, Puerto Rico as the Bronze medalist qualified for the World Championship. José Romero won the MVP award.

Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the territory's nineteenth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics. Like on the 2016 Summer Olympics, Puerto Rico left the Olympics with a single gold medal, this time won by Jasmine Camacho-Quinn. The 2022 FIBA AmeriCup qualification was a basketball competition that was played from June 2018 to February 2021, to determine the eleven FIBA Americas nations who would join the automatically qualified host Brazil at the 2022 FIBA AmeriCup.
