The women's basketball tournament at the 2019 Pan American Games was held in Lima, Peru at the Coliseo Eduardo Dibos from 6 August to 10 August. [1] The teams were grouped into two pools of four teams each for a round-robin preliminary round. The top two teams in each group advanced to a single elimination bracket. [1] Brazil won the gold medal, the first since 1991 in Havana, after defeating the United States in the final.
A total of eight teams qualified to compete at the games. The top seven teams at the 2017 FIBA AmeriCup have qualified, plus Olympic Champions United States. The host nation Peru was barred from participating by FIBA, following sanctions imposed on the Peruvian Basketball Federation. [2] Colombia took the vacated berth.

At the start of tournament, all eight participating countries had up to 12 players on their rosters.
In the first round of the competition, teams are divided into two pools of four teams, and play follows a round robin format with each of the teams playing all other teams in the pool once. Teams are awarded two points for a win, and one point for a loss.
Following the completion of the pool games, the top two teams from each pool advance to a single elimination round consisting of two semifinal games, and the bronze and gold medal matches. Losing teams compete in classification matches to determine their ranking in the tournament.

The FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament for Men 2008 was the final qualifying tournament for the 2008 Olympic men's basketball tournament. Organized by FIBA, it took place from 14 to 20 July 2008 at the OAKA Indoor Sports Arena, in Athens, Greece. The draw for the tournament was held on 31 January 2008 at the Divani Caravel hotel in Athens.
The 2009 FIBA Americas Championship, later known as the FIBA AmeriCup, was the continental championship held by FIBA Americas, for North, Central and South America and the Caribbean. This FIBA AmeriCup championship served as a qualifying tournament for the 2010 FIBA World Championship in Turkey. Each of the top four finishers in the quarterfinal round robin qualified for the World Championship.

The women's tournament of water polo at the 2019 Pan American Games in Lima, Peru took place between 4 and 10 August at the Villa María del Triunfo Aquatic Centre. The winner of the competition qualifies directly for the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo, Japan.
Puerto Rico competed at the 2020 Summer Olympics in Tokyo. Originally scheduled to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the Games were postponed to 23 July to 8 August 2021, because of the COVID-19 pandemic. It was the territory's nineteenth consecutive appearance at the Summer Olympics. Like on the 2016 Summer Olympics, Puerto Rico left the Olympics with a single gold medal, this time won by Jasmine Camacho-Quinn. Other athletes fell short of their Olympic medal, with Steven Piñeiro finishing sixth in the men's skateboarding street park final, and table tennis player Adriana Díaz losing a match in the third round.
The 2022 FIBA AmeriCup qualification was a basketball competition that was played from June 2018 to February 2021, to determine the eleven FIBA Americas nations who would join the automatically qualified host Brazil at the 2022 FIBA AmeriCup.
The 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup qualification for the FIBA Americas region began in April 2021 and will conclude in February 2023. The process will determine the seven teams that will participate at the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup.
