Batrachedra monophthalma is a moth in the Batrachedridae family. It is found on Rapa Island. [1]
Moths comprise a group of insects related to butterflies, belonging to the order Lepidoptera. Most lepidopterans are moths, and there are thought to be approximately 160,000 species of moth, many of which have yet to be described. Most species of moth are nocturnal, but there are also crepuscular and diurnal species.
The Batrachedridae are a small family of moths. These are small, slender moths which rest with their wings wrapped tightly around their bodies. The taxonomy of this and related groups is often disputed. It was long thought to contain two genera, Batrachedra and Houdinia.
Rapa, sometimes called Rapa Iti, is the largest and only inhabited island of the Bass Islands in French Polynesia. An older name for the island is Oparo. Its area is 40 km2 with a population of almost 500 and a max elevation of 650 m. Its main town is Ahuréi.
