The host nation (Canada) qualified in each event, along with the top five ranked nations in South America and the top ten nations ranked in North, Central America and the Caribbean. Sidarka de los Milagros Núñez is a volleyball player from the Dominican Republic, who played for the Women's National Team at the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. There her team ended up in fifth place. She claimed the gold medal at the 2008 Women's Pan-American Volleyball Cup in Mexico, where she was named Most Valuable Player of the tournament.
Gina Altagracia Mambrú Casilla is a female volleyball player from the Dominican Republic, who played the 2012 Olympic Games and the 2014 World Championship ranking fifth in both competitions. She won the gold medal at the 2010 and 2014 Central American and Caribbean Games and bronze at the 2015 Pan American Games.
