Belize competed at the 2015 Pan American Games in Toronto, Ontario, Canada from July 10 to 26, 2015. [1]

Contents

The Belizean team consisting of three (two men and one woman) athletes in two sports (athletics and triathlon) was announced on July 4, 2015. [2] [3] This occasion marked the country's debut in the sport of triathlon. Triathlete Amed Figueroa was the flagbearer for the team during the opening ceremony. [4]

Belize did not medal at the games, with sprinter Kaina Martinez finishing with the nation's highest placement (23rd place) in the women's 100 metres track and field event.

The Pan American Games triathlon contained three components; a 1.5 km (0.93 mi) swim, 40 km (25 mi) cycle, and a 10 km (6.2 mi) run. There was a total of two medal events in the sport.

Belize competed at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, from 5 to 21 August 2016. It was the nation's twelfth appearance at the Olympic Games, although it had previously appeared in two early editions under the name "British Honduras". Belize joined the United States-led boycott of the 1980 Summer Olympics hosted in Moscow, Russia. The delegation included two track and field athletes: Brandon Jones and Katy Sealy, as well as judoka Renick James. All three athletes made their Olympic debut. Belize Olympic and Commonwealth Games Association appointed 200 metres sprinter Brandon Jones to carry the nation's flag in the opening ceremony. Belize, however, has yet to win its first Olympic medal.
