Bede Anwataazumo Ziedeng (born on Friday, 22 October 1954) popularly known as Bede Ziedeng is a Ghanaian politician. In 2008, Bede Ziedeng contested the Lawra-Nandom Parliamentary election on the ticket of the Democratic Freedom Party. He lost to Hon. Ambrose Dery of the New Patriotic Party. [1] Ziedeng served as the General Secretary of the Democratic Freedom Party (DFP) in 2006. [2]
Bede Ziedeng hails from Eremon-Lawra in the Upper West Region. [3] He had his Ordinary and Advance level certificate in 1978. Bede Ziedeng earned LLB Hons in 1984 as well as Barrister at Law in 1986. [4]
Bede Ziedeng is a bank clerk for housing and construction. He was the regional chair at the Office of Revenue Commissioners (Northern & Upper East). He serves as Deputy Regional Minister for Northern and Upper West Region. He is part of the Subsidiary Legislation Committee as the Vice Chairperson in parliament. Bede Ziedeng also serves on Roads and Transport Committee in parliament. [5]
In 2008, Ziedeng contested the Lawra-Nandom Parliamentary election on the ticket of the Democratic Freedom Party, but lost to Hon. Ambrose Dery of the New Patriotic Party. He then contested in 2016 parliamentary election, again losing. [6] [7] Bede Ziedeng contested in 2020 and won. He is the Member of parliament (MP) for Lawra Constituency in the Upper West Region. The Upper West Region of Ghana is located in the north-western corner of Ghana and is bordered by Upper East Region to the east, Northern Region to the south, and Burkina Faso to the west and north. The Upper West regional capital and largest settlement is Wa. The Upper West was created by the then Head of State, Flight-Lieutenant Jerry Rawlings in 1983 under the Provisional National Defense Council (PNDC) military regime. The area was carved out of the former Upper Region, which is now the Upper East Region. For about thirty-five years, it remained the youngest region of Ghana until 2018 when six more regions were created by the Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo government; hence increasing the total number of administrative regions in the country to sixteen.
Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin is a Ghanaian politician who is the current Speaker of the Parliament of Ghana. He was the Minister for Health in the Ghana government from January 2012 until February 2013. He served as the Member of Parliament for Nadowli West constituency in the Upper West Region of Ghana in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th parliaments of the 4th republic of Ghana. He contested for the presidential candidate slot of the National Democratic Congress in 2019 but subsequently lost to former President John Dramani Mahama. On 7th January 2021 Bagbin was elected Speaker of 8th Parliament of the Fourth Republic.
