Lawra is a small town and is the capital of Lawra district, a district in the Upper West Region of Ghana. [1] [2]

Location

The town is located in the North western part of Ghana. Its distance from Wa, the Regional capital by road is 88.55 Kilometers (55.02 miles). [3]

Politics

Lawra is in the Lawra constituency headed by Hon. Anthony Nyoh-Abeyifaa Karbo [4] [5] of the New Patriotic Party. He succeeded Hon. Samson Abu of the National Democratic congress. [6]

Tourism

Lawra is known for its musical instrument manufacture, and for the Kobine harvest festival [7] with important dancing and musical events. [1]

Bagabaga College of Education is a teacher education college in Tamale. The college is located in Northern Zone zone. It is one of the about 40 public colleges of education in Ghana. The college participated in the DFID-funded T-TEL programme. The college was set up in January 1944 with 17 males students with an objective to train professional teachers to teach in basic schools. The college is affiliated to the University of Education, Winneba.

Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Jirapa/Lambussie District in 1988; until the northern part of the district was later split off to create Lambussie-Karni District on 29 February 2008; that is, the remaining part has been renamed as Jirapa District, which was later elevated to municipal district assembly status on 15 March 2018 to become Jirapa Municipal District. The municipality is located in the northwest parts of the Upper West Region and has Jirapa as its capital town.

The Kaleo Power Station is a 13 MW (17,000 hp) solar power plant in Ghana. The solar farm is owned and was developed by the Volta River Authority, between February 2020 and August 2022. The power off-taker is GRIDCo, which integrates the electricity into the national grid.
