The song marked Blige's first top forty hit, reaching number twenty-nine on the Billboard Hot 100 and number one on the Hot R&B Singles chart. The music video was released in 1992. The song also sampled Patrice Rushen’s 1982 song, ‘Remind Me’.
"If You Asked Me To" is a song written by American songwriter Diane Warren and produced by Stewart Levine and Aaron Zigman. It was originally recorded by American singer Patti LaBelle for her ninth studio album, Be Yourself (1989), and also for the soundtrack to the James Bond film Licence to Kill. The song was released as the soundtrack's second single on June 12, 1989 by MCA Records. The lyrics are from the point of view of a woman who pleads to her significant other: "If you asked me to, I just might change my mind, and let you in my life forever". Three years later, Canadian singer Celine Dion covered the song for her 1992 self-titled second English-language studio album. Released as the album's second single, Dion's version topped the Canadian charts and peaked at number four on the US Billboard Hot 100.
This Is Regina! is the sixth studio album by American singer Regina Belle. It was released by Peak Records on October 23, 2001, in the United States. Her debut with the label, following her departure from Columbia Records and a short stint with MCA Records, Belle teamed again with Barry J. Eastmond, producer on her second album, Stay with Me (1989), to work on the majority of This Is Regina!. Upon release, the album peaked at number 61 on the US Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums and number 26 on the Independent Albums. Only single, "Oooh Boy," peaked at number 68 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs and number 64 on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Airplay.
Stay with Me is the second album by American singer–songwriter Regina Belle, released on August 22, 1989, by Columbia Records. It peaked at number 63 on the US Billboard 200 and number one on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart. It includes the hit singles "All I Want Is Forever", "Baby Come to Me", "Make It Like It Was" and "What Goes Around". "Good Lovin'" was released as a single in the UK, where it reached number 73 in the UK Singles Chart. The album was certified Gold by the RIAA on January 22, 1990.
"Live and Die For Hip Hop" is a song by American rap duo Kris Kross, released as the second and final single from their third album, Young, Rich & Dangerous (1996). It is their ninth and final single overall, and features rap stars Da Brat, Jermaine Dupri, Mr. Black and background vocals by R&B star Aaliyah. The song contains a sample of "Baby Come to Me" by Regina Belle. It was not as successful as "Tonite's tha Night", however it did gain some success, making it to #72 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #11 on the Hot Rap Singles chart. A remix was made featuring DJ Clark Kent.

"Love No Limit" is a song by American recording artist Mary J. Blige. It was co-written by Kenny Greene and Dave "Jam" Hall for her debut album, What's the 411? (1992), while production was overseen by Hall. Released in May 1993 by Uptown and MCA as the album's fourth and final single, the song became a top-5 hit, reaching number five on the US Billboard R&B singles chart. It also peaked at numbers 44 and 43 on the Billboard Hot 100 and Cash Box Top 100. Hall has stated in interviews, that he wanted to give the song an urban, hip-hop feel to a much more jazzy sound, when it was created.

The album features a hip-hop-esque remake of DeBarge's 1983 hit, "All This Love", produced by Teddy Riley. Gems peaked at number forty-eight on the US Billboard 200 and went gold with sales shipping past the 500,000 mark. The album is notable for the single "The Right Kinda Lover", which brought LaBelle a new legion of fans thanks to its production by Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis and its video which had LaBelle performing a seductress who chooses "the right mate" through a machine and if one man rubbed her the wrong way, she'd use a button to get rid of them.

Beverly Hills Cop III: Original Motion Picture Soundtrack is the soundtrack to the 1994 film of the same name. It was released on May 10, 1994, by MCA Records and consisted mostly of R&B music with some rock and hip hop. Like the film, the soundtrack was not well received and only made it to 158 on the Billboard 200 and 66 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums. Three singles found minor success on the charts, "The Right Kinda Lover" by Patti LaBelle, "Luv 4 Dem Gangsta'z" by Eazy-E, and "The Place Where You Belong" by Shai. The song "Mood" which is performed by Chanté Moore also appears on her second album A Love Supreme. Nile Rodgers also covered Harold Faltermeyer's "Axel F" in a breakbeat hardcore version.
