Benapole Express (Train no. 795-796) is a semi non-stop intercity train which runs between Dhaka (capital of Bangladesh) and Benapole. The train connects the capital to an important Land port of Bangladesh.
There was no train service directly from Benapole to Dhaka. So Bangladesh government had decided to operate a new intercity train on Dhaka-Benapole route as the existing train makes 14 stops, taking the total travel time to 10 to 12 hours. [1] In order to reach Dhaka, the passengers of India are facing extreme suffering. The only road to travel depends on the bus. This breakthrough move saves at least 3 to 4 hours as Benapole Express is reaching its destination within 7–8 hours daily. The Benapole Express has been scheduled to run non-stop for six days every week. [2]
The train is named after its final destination. At first, a few names including Bandar Express, Ichhamati Express and Benapole Express were proposed but former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had finalized the name Benapole Express.
The Benapole Express has a total of 896 seats. There are 12 new coaches on the train with advanced technologies and facilities which have been procured from China. Among them, two are air-conditioned controlled. There is a wheelchair system for disabled passengers, which is the first in Bangladesh. [3]
Rolling Stock:
At the beginning, the train used to run with 12 new coaches procured from Indonesia. But then the new coaches were replaced with 10 LHB coaches from India. On 18 April 2023, Benapole express received its current Chinese coaches with advanced technologies and facilities under the Padma Rail Link.

The ticket price for the train has been fixed at ৳485 taka for Shovan chair, ৳1,047 taka for Snigdha, ৳1,213 taka for air-conditioned seats each and ৳1,869 taka for air-conditioned cabins. [5]
Two canteen are added to the train. Here burgers, cakes, sandwiches, patches, rolls, bread, tea, copies, cutlets, boiled eggs, fried chicken, kebab singers, samucha, various types of soft drinks and mineral water are available.

Benapole is a township in Sharsha Upazila in the Jessore District of Bangladesh. The Petrapole Customs station of India is situated across the border and since 1971, many people have travelled between Bangladesh and India through Benapole Customs / Land port station. The railway link between Bangladesh and India through Benapole was discontinued when war broke out between Pakistan and India in September 1965.
Indian Railways coaching stock consists of various travel class passenger coaches, freight wagons apart from specialized and dedicated coaching stock for other uses. Indian Railways operates India's railway system and comes under the purview of the Ministry of Railways of Government of India. As of 2022, it operates over 8000 trains daily with a inventory of 318,196 freight wagons and 84,863 passenger coaches. The rolling stock is manufactured by five units owned by Indian Railways, four public sector units and one private company.
The Maitree Express (13109/13110) train, often pronounced Moitree Express, is the first express train service connecting Dhaka in Bangladesh to Kolkata in the Indian state of West Bengal. The Bengali name Maitree Express means Friendship Express when translated to English, denoting the significance of the train service to the friendly foreign relations between India and Bangladesh. Previously train services between the two countries existed before the partition of India by the British and the Maitree Express re-established this connection between Dhaka and Kolkata in 2008 after being closed for 43 years. In 2017, a second train service, the Bandhan Express, was inaugurated connecting Kolkata with the Bangladeshi city of Khulna, recreating the previous Barisal Express train route.
Transport between India and Bangladesh bears much historical and political significance for both countries, which possessed no ground transport links for 43 years, starting with the partition of Bengal and India in 1947. The Kolkata–Dhaka Bus (1999) and the Dhaka–Agartala Bus (2001) are the primary road links between the two countries; a direct Kolkata-Agartala running through Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh is being developed by both countries. The Maitree Express was launched to revive a railway link between Kolkata and Dhaka that had been shut for 43 years.
Rampurhat Junction railway station is 7th busiest railway stations of Eastern Railway zone and it is the largest and busiest railway station of Birbhum district of West Bengal. It is a "NSG-3" category station. The station is under Howrah railway division is the 3rd busiest station in this division after Howrah and Burdwan railway station. It is 207 kilometres away from Howrah Junction. This station is famous for its connectivity with the neighbouring districts and states and also for the Hindu pilgrims visiting to Tarapith Maa Tara Temple which is just 9 km away from the station. Station code RPH, it is the railway station serving the city of Rampurhat. Rampurhat station is connected to Kolkata, Bhubaneswar, Vishakhapatnam, Hyderabad, Chennai, Kanyakumari, Bengaluru, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Mumbai, Surat, Delhi, Dhanbad, Gaya, Ranchi, Asansol, Jamalpur, Bhagalpur, Siliguri, Guwahati, Dibrugarh, Silchar, Agartala and almost every part of India. More than 130 express and passengers trains including 19 originating trains pass through the Rampurhat station everyday. This station has also a Marshalling Yard for Goods Trains, carshed for passenger rakes and engines and has 2 cabin, named East Cabin and West Cabin.
Parabat Express is an intercity train which runs between Dhaka and Sylhet, two important cities in Bangladesh. It has been considered one of the most prestigious and luxurious trains since the inception of intercity train in Bangladesh in 1986.
Lalmoni Express is an intercity train which runs between Dhaka and Lalmonirhat District. Lalmoni Express has been considered one of the popular trains since its inception in 2004. The train connects several important cities, such as: Lalmonirhat, Gaibandha, Bogra, Natore with Dhaka. It is one of the long-distance travelling trains of Bangladesh alonging with Drutajan Express, Panchagarh Express, and Ekota Express.
The Bandhan Express train is an international express rail service which runs between the Indian city Kolkata and the Bangladeshi city Khulna every week. It is the second modern day, fully air conditioned passenger train link between the Indian state West Bengal and Bangladesh. The Bengali word Bandhan means bonding when translated to English. It was initially referred to as the Maitree Express II. A valid visa and passport is required before purchasing a ticket for the Bandhan Express train. Tickets are available at Khulna railway station in Bangladesh and at Chitpur Station in Kolkata, India. The train service is currently paused indefinitely due to political upheaval in Bangladesh since July-August 2024.
Suborno Express is an intercity train of Bangladesh Railway which runs between Dhaka and Chittagong. Suborno Express has been considered one of the prestigious trains since it is considered the first luxurious non-stop train in the country. The train connects the capital Dhaka with Port City Chittagong of Bangladesh.
The Shonar Bangla Express is an inter-city rail service run by Bangladesh Railway. This service provides a swift and luxurious passenger rail connection between the capital of Bangladesh, Dhaka to the port city of Chattogram. This service only has one intermediate stop at Dhaka Airport.

Upaban Express is an intercity train running from Dhaka to Sylhet under Bangladesh Railway. Upaban Express was inaugurated on 4 May 1988. Three other intercity trains, Parabat Express, Jayantika Express and Kalni Express run on this route.
The Mitali Express (13131/13132) train is an international express rail service which connects the Indian city of Siliguri with the Bangladeshi capital Dhaka every week. Together with the Maitree Express train and the Bandhan Express train, the Mitali Express train is the third modern-day fully air conditioned passenger train link between the Indian state of West Bengal and Bangladesh. Both the prime ministers of the two neighbouring countries officially inaugurated the non-stop passenger train with ten compartments on the new 513 km route from Dhaka on 26 March 2021, the day Bangladesh celebrated the golden jubilee of its independence. The prime minister of India was in Dhaka to mark the auspicious occasion of fifty years of independence of Bangladesh. After 56 years of stoppage, this train route recreates the previous Siliguri route between India and Bangladesh. A valid visa and passport is required beforehand to purchase a ticket for the Mitali Express train. Tickets are available at Dhaka Kamalapur railway station in Dhaka, Bangladesh and at New Jalpaiguri railway station in Siliguri, India.

The MRT Line 6 is a rapid transit line of the Dhaka Metro Rail. It is Bangladesh's first rapid transit line and has been in service since 2022. The line is entirely elevated and currently has 16 stations operational in service between Uttara North and Motijheel.
The Cox's Bazar Express is a non-stop intercity train belonging to Bangladesh Railway – East Zone that runs between Dhaka and Cox's Bazar railway station from 1 December 2023. This is the first commercial train that gives service in Cox's Bazar.
