Benjamin Saunders is a rugby union player for the Philippines national rugby union team he plays for the Red Hurricanes Osaka in the Japan Rugby League One. [1] [2]

Career

Saunders joined Japanese side Toyota Industries Shuttles in 2013, where he stayed for seven seasons before joining rival side Red Hurricanes Osaka in 2020. [3] [4]

He has played for the national, u20 and sevens [5] teams of the Philippines, [6] he captained Philippine under-20s team which won the Junior Asian Division 2 championship in Vientiane, Laos. [7]

Personal life

He grew up in Australia, to a British father and a Filipina mother who hails from Pangasinan. He has three other siblings Oliver, Matt and sister Abigail. [7] Both his brothers have also played for the Philippines national team.

Saunders is a former professional rugby league footballer with Norths in the Jersey Flegg Cup. He is one of the leading try-scores in the Philippines team. Oliver is brothers with fellow Philippines players Matt Saunders and Benjamin Saunders. In 2011, he and his brother Matt signed to the NTT Communications Shining Arcs for the 2012/2013 season of the Japanese Top League competition.

Riaan Viljoen is a professional South African rugby union rugby player, currently playing with Japanese Super Rugby side the Sunwolves and Top League West side NTT DoCoMo Red Hurricanes. He was born in Carletonville, South Africa and his first tour with the Springboks was to France, Italy, Ireland and England in late 2009 where he played in two touring matches.
