Koforidua, also popularly known as K-dua or Koftown, is a city and the capital of Eastern Region in southern Ghana. Koforidua was founded in 1875 by migrants from Ashanti. Samuel Ofosu-Ampofo is a Ghanaian politician and a former Member of Parliament and former District Chief Executive for the Fanteakwa North district of the Eastern Region of Ghana. He is also a former Eastern Regional Minister and a former National Organizer of the National Democratic Congress. Ampofo is also a former Minister for Local Government and Rural Development. He is currently the national Chairman for the National Democratic Congress(NDC).

Fanteakwa North District is one of the thirty-three districts in Eastern Region, Ghana. Originally it was formerly part of the then-larger Fanteakwa District in 1988, which was created from the former East Akim District Council, until the southern part of the district was split off to create Fanteakwa South District on 15 March 2018; thus the remaining part has been renamed as Fanteakwa North District. The district assembly is located in the central part of Eastern Region and has Begoro as its capital town.

The murder of Georgina Asor Botchwey, an aspiring trainee nurse, is alleged to have been carried out by the Tufuhene (Chief) of Ekumfi Akwakrom Christopher Ekow Clark Quansah and a pastor Michael Darko Amponsah. The crime was committed at Mankessim in the Central Region of Ghana. The killing came after the victim was allegedly kidnapped by the pastor after she went for an interview at the Ankaful Nursing Training College.
