Berk Trade and Business School is a private, for-profit trade and vocational schools in New York City. It was founded in 1940 [1] and is one of the oldest trade and vocational schools in the city.[ citation needed ] The school's founder, Irving Berk, was committed to trade and vocational education. [2] The school develops entry-level skills for the building trades, specifically plumbing, electrical installation and building maintenance.
Originally, the school was one of the first trade schools to teach plumbing installation in the country. Berk was a plumber by trade and later decided to add electrical installation to the school's curriculum. The school also taught other trades, such as nursing and phlebotomy, at three different branches before it returned to its original buildings trades model.

A vocational school is a type of educational institution, which, depending on the country, may refer to either secondary or post-secondary education designed to provide vocational education or technical skills required to complete the tasks of a particular and specific job. In the case of secondary education, these schools differ from academic high schools which usually prepare students who aim to pursue tertiary education, rather than enter directly into the workforce. With regard to post-secondary education, vocational schools are traditionally distinguished from four-year colleges by their focus on job-specific training to students who are typically bound for one of the skilled trades, rather than providing academic training for students pursuing careers in a professional discipline. While many schools have largely adhered to this convention, the purely vocational focus of other trade schools began to shift in the 1990s "toward a broader preparation that develops the academic" as well as technical skills of their students.

Thomas A. Edison Career and Technical Education High School is a public secondary school in Queens's Jamaica Hills community in New York City. It is one of the few public high schools in New York City to offer vocational training programs as well as traditional college preparatory tracks and well known for its largely male population. If desired, students at St. Georges can follow a Business, Communication, and Computers ; Construction Technologies ; Health Services ; Public and Consumer Services ; Science, Energy, and Drafting Technologies ; or Transportation pathway. The Sorsogon State University (SorSU) is one of the oldest trade schools in the Philippines. It was established as Sorsogon Trade School in 1907, was renamed Sorsogon School of Arts and Trades by virtue of Republic Act 704 in June 1953 and again renamed Sorsogon College of Arts and Trades in 1976. In December 1993, after 86 years of existence, it was converted into a state college with three national vocational high schools in the province integrated to it. This was thru R.A. 7666 authored by then Cong. Salvador H. Escudero III and Sen. Leticia Ramos Shahani, approved on December 31, 1993, by President Fidel V. Ramos.

Solar 1 is New York City's only self-sustaining solar powered building. It houses educational facilities for Solar One, a non-profit organisation concerned with green energy, arts, and education. The Solar 1 building is located at the north end of Stuyvesant Cove Park, the city's only all-native plant park, which Solar 1 actively maintains. Situated on a brownfield site, Stuyvesant Cove Park offers opportunities for the local community to become involved in the park and learn about its special features. The Park has been designated a Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation for providing a quality habitat by virtue of its standards of conscientious planning, landscaping and sustainable gardening. More than 250 volunteers and 80 student interns have spent more than 5,000 hours working in the park, planting, watering and weeding the thousands of new plants that have been added over the years.
Samuel Gompers Career and Technical Education High School was a public vocational school for grades 9–12 located in East Morrisania, Bronx, New York, named for American Federation of Labor founder Samuel Gompers. The school was founded in 1930 as Samuel Gompers Industrial High School for Boys. It was closed in 2012.

The Manhattan Trade School for Girls was a New York City public high school founded in 1902 by Mary Schenck Woolman, and was the first vocational school for female students established in the United States. It was established by philanthropic reformers to provide training for young women to work in trades such as garment factory work. It was originally located on West 14th Street, but was moved to East 23rd Street in 1906–1907. To accommodate growing enrollment, a new building was constructed and designed by C. B. J. Snyder in 1915 at 127 East 22nd Street. The building now houses The School of the Future, a New York City public middle school and high school.
