Betsy Hannig (born November 10,1963) is a former Democratic member of the Illinois House of Representatives,having been appointed to serve as a placeholder caused by the vacancy caused by the resignation of her husband,Gary Hannig,who was appointed by Governor Pat Quinn to be Illinois Secretary of Transportation. Senators are divided into three groups,each group having a two-year term at a different part of the decade between censuses,with the rest of the decade being taken up by two four-year terms. This ensures that the Senate reflects changes made when the General Assembly redistricts itself after each census.
Michael Joseph Madigan is an American politician who is the former speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives. He was the longest-serving leader of any state or federal legislative body in the history of the United States,having held the position for all but two years from 1983 to 2021. He served in the Illinois House from 1971 to 2021. He represented the 27th District from 1971 to 1983,the 30th district from 1983 to 1993,and the 22nd district from 1993 to 2021. This made him the body's longest-serving member and the only remaining legislator to have been elected before the Cutback Amendment.
