Rayalaseema is a geographic region in the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It comprises four southern districts of the state namely, Anantapur, Chittoor, Kadapa and Kurnool. As of 2011 census of India, the region with four districts had a population of 15,184,908 and covers an area of 67,526 km2 (26,072 sq mi).

Proddatur is a city in the YSR Kadapa District of Andhra Pradesh. It is the second largest city in Kadapa District after Kadapa City. It is based on the banks of the Penna River. It is the smallest municipal body by area, but its urban agglomeration is 14th in the state in terms of population and contains 41 wards. And The old name of proddatur is Bradhanpuri. As per Hindu mythology, after Lord Ram killed Ravana and was returning with Sita, he decided to rest in this city and stopped here along the banks of Penna at sunset—which is how the city got its name. Sunset in Telugu is Proddu. Vijaya Dashmi or Dussehra is a festival celebrated here with great pomp and enthusiasm. Once in stop by local sweet shop and try the special ‘Tangedu Palle’, a famous sweet of Proddatur made of special ghee.

State in 1956, the Department of Archaeology and Museums, Hyderabad was expanded and it became known as Andhra Pradesh Department of Archaeology and Museums in the year 1960. When the state of Telangana was formed in 2014, the department was separated into two; leading to disputes between the two newly-formed departments over historical artifacts.
