The Bhumata Brigade is a Pune-based social activist organization founded in 2010 in the state of Maharashtra, India, dedicated to fighting against injustice to women and against corruption. The organization's founder is Indian gender equality activist Trupti Desai. [1]
The Bhumata Brigade is best known for their protests against the banning of women from worship at places of worship, including Shani Shingnapur temple in Ahmednagar, Maharashtra, and the Haji Ali Dargah in Mumbai, Maharashtra. [2] [3]
By 2016, the Bhumata Brigade reportedly had 4,000 members, including some men. A branch of the organization Bhumata Ranragani Brigade, focuses on women's causes, including the Shani temple protests. [4] They are also sought out for assistance by victims of eve teasing, dowry issues, and physical or sexual assault.
Other protests include: high prices of onions and other vegetables; exploitation of farmers and farmer suicides; the rape of a child in Mumbai; the Lokpal bill agitations with Anna Hazare; and more.[ citation needed ]
Bhumata Brigade is not aligned with any political parties in India. [4] Desai has stood for election. [5]
Shiv Sena is a right-wing to far-right Marathi regionalist and Hindu ultranationalist political party in India founded in 1966 by Bal Thackeray. The party split in 2022 into Shiv Sena and Balasahebanchi Shiv Sena but was regained by the Eknath Shinde led Faction. Its headquarters is situated in Thane, Maharashtra.

Trupti Desai is an Indian social activist and the founder of the Bhumata Brigade & Bhumata Foundation, a Pune-based organization. Desai has campaigned for allowing women to religious places like the Shani Shingnapur Temple, the Haji Ali Dargah, the Mahalakshmi Temple, and the Trimbakeshwar Shiva Temple, all in Maharashtra, and most recently the Sabarimala temple in Kerala. In 2012, she was an Indian National Congress candidate for the Pune Municipal Corporation elections. In 2021, she participated in Bigg Boss Marathi 3 as a contestant and evicted on Day 49.
The Maratha Kranti Morcha, loosely translated as "Maratha revolutionary demonstration" in the Marathi language, is a series of silent and pragmatic protests organized by the Maratha community in various cities across India as well as overseas. Other groups, such as religious minorities including Muslims, have also supported the Morcha. The impetus for the rallies was the rape and murder of a 15-year-old girl in Kopardi village, Maharashtra, on 13 July 2016. The protesters have demanded the death sentence for the rapists. The 2018 Bhima Koregaon violence refers to violence during an annual celebratory gathering on 1 January 2018 at Bhima Koregaon to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Bhima Koregaon. The violence and stone pelting by crowd on the gathering resulted in death of a 28-year old youth and injury to five others. The annual celebration, also called Elgar Parishad convention, was organised by retired justices B. G. Kolse Patil and P. B. Sawant. Justice Sawant stated that the term "Elgar" meant loud invitation or loud declaration.
