Biao Ren is an upcoming historical fantasy film directed by Yuen Woo-ping, based on the manhua of the same name. The film was produced by Alibaba Pictures in association with Beijing Dengfeng International Culture Communications Company and Woo Ping Pictures. The film stars Wu Jing in the title role, alongside Nicholas Tse, Yu Shi and Jet Li.
In July 2023, it was announced that a film adaptation of the Biao Ren manhua is in development, [1] and in December 2023, it was revealed that Yuen Woo-ping will direct the live-action film. [2] In June 2024, it was announced that Wu Jing will produce the film and were cast as the lead role Dao Ma, with Nicholas Tse joining the cast, [3] [4] [5] in the following months Yu Shi and Jet Li joined the cast. Principal photography officially began in Xinjiang and Beijing on July 26, 2024. [10] [11] Filming wrapped on November 27. [11] [12]
Yuen Woo-ping is a Hong Kong martial arts choreographer and film director who worked in Hong Kong action cinema and later Hollywood films. He is one of the inductees on the Avenue of Stars in Hong Kong. Yuen is also a son of Yuen Siu-tien, a martial arts film actor. He attended the China Drama Academy for one year as a day student of Master Yu Jim-yuen as well.

Jet Li is a Chinese-born Singaporean martial artist, retired wushu champion, film actor, film producer, and philanthropist. His first non-Chinese film role was as a villain in the 1998 buddy cop action film Lethal Weapon 4 with Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. His first leading role in a Hollywood film was as Han Sing in the 2000 martial arts action film Romeo Must Die with Aaliyah. Wu Xiubo, is a Chinese actor, musician and producer. He rose to prominence for his role in the television drama Before the Dawn (2009), followed by a series of hit shows such as Angel Heart (2012), Divorce Lawyers (2013), and The Advisors Alliance (2017). He is also known for romcom Finding Mr. Right (2013) and its sequel Book of Love (2016). In 2018, Wu's career was suspended by an extramarital scandal.

Biao Ren or Blades of the Guardians (镖人), is a Chinese manhua that was written and illustrated by Xianzhe Xu. It was first serialized in the new comics app in July 2015. The manhua quickly attracted a large number of readers and was well received. Since its first publication, Biao Ren has been serialized on online platforms including Tencent Comics. As of August 2024, Beijing United Publishing Company has released twelve bound volumes.
