Biathlon at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics took place at the temporary Biathlon Course at the Seefeld Arena venue in Innsbruck, Austria. [1] [2] One of the mixed events is contested together with cross-country skiers.

Seefeld in Tirol is an old farming village, now a major tourist resort, in Innsbruck-Land District in the Austrian state of Tyrol with a local population of 3,312. The village is located about 17 km (11 mi) northwest of Innsbruck on a plateau between the Wetterstein mountains and the Karwendel on a historic road from Mittenwald to Innsbruck that has been important since the Middle Ages. It was first mentioned in 1022 and since the 14th century has been a pilgrimage site, benefiting not only from the visit of numerous pilgrims but also from its stacking rights as a trading station between Augsburg and the Venice. The 2012 Winter Youth Olympic Games, officially known as the I Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG), were an international multi-sport event for youths that took place in Innsbruck, Austria, on 13–22 January 2012. They were the inaugural Winter Youth Olympics, a major sports and cultural festival celebrated in the tradition of the Olympic Games. Approximately 1100 athletes from 70 countries competed. The decision for Innsbruck to host the Games was announced on 12 December 2008 after mail voting by 105 International Olympic Committee (IOC) members. Innsbruck is the first city to host three winter Olympic events, having previously hosted the 1964 Winter Olympics and the 1976 Winter Olympics.

The 5th Biathlon World Championships were held in 1963 in Seefeld, Austria. The men's 20 km individual and team were the only competitions.

Milanko Petrović is a Serbian biathlete who participated at the 2010 Winter Olympics, becoming the first olympic biathlete for independent Serbia. At the 2014 Winter Olympics he carried Serbian flag at the opening ceremony and competed in biathlon and cross-country skiing. He represents Serbia at the Biathlon World Championships and he is a regular participant of the Biathlon World Cup and the first ever Serb to win World Cup points. Occasionally, he competes in cross-country skiing. At the 2013 Winter Universiade he made a remarkable success by winning first ever international medals for Serbia in biathlon and cross-country skiing.

Cross-country skiing at the 2012 Youth Winter Olympics took place at the Cross-Country World Cup Course at the Seefeld Arena in Seefeld, Austria from 14 to 16 January. Five events were contested and a mixed relay with biathlon athletes.

The boys' sprint competition of the biathlon events at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics in Innsbruck, Austria, was held on January 15, at Seefeld Arena. 50 athletes from 30 different countries took part in this event. The race was 7.5 km in length.

The Seefeld Nordic Competence Centre is a multi-sport venue for nordic skiing located in Seefeld in Tirol, Austria. It consists of a cross-country skiing stadium, the Toni-Seelos-Olympiaschanzes with two ski jumping hills; a normal hill and a medium hill and a shooting range for biathlon. It has previously hosted the 1976 Winter Olympics and the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships in 1985 and 2019.
