Big Brother 2020, also known as BB2020, is the fifth season of the Portuguese version of the reality show Big Brother . It's the first time the original format of Big Brother to air since the Portuguese version of Secret Story, and the first time after seventeen years, the regular version to air since the fourth season in 2003. BB2020 was announced on 30 November 2019 by TVI, as a celebration for the twentieth anniversary of Big Brother. [2]
Former Big Brother Famosos 2 housemate Cláudio Ramos host the main Gala show on Sundays. [3] Model and radio host Mafalda de Castro host the afternoon daily show "BB MAG/Diario" and the afternoon extra show "Extra Tarde". [4] Maria Botelho Moniz host the midnight extra show "BB - Fora d'Horas/Extra". [5]
The show was originally scheduled to start on 22 March 2020. [6] But was postponed until further notice by TVI due to the impact of COVID-19 pandemic in Portugal. [7]
On 18 April 2020, it was revealed that the show will start on 26 April 2020. [8] Later revealed that the first two weeks of the show would be a special edition, named BB ZOOM .
Big Brother officially started on 10 May 2020. Seventeen housemates from BB ZOOM entered the Big Brother house. In addition, two new housemates entered quarantine. [9]
The first two weeks would be known as BB ZOOM - A Caminho da Casa for a special edition before the BB2020 starts. The housemates did not enter the Big Brother house at the beginning of the season, instead, they entered the specific apartment guarded by several cameras individually. [10] During the time, housemates can communicate with the other housemates via videoconference and they would face some challenges. [11] At the end of each week, the housemates would be evaluated by viewers, and fight for the title of "Favorite of the Public". During this period, all housemates would participate diagnostic tests for COVID-19 twice, after two weeks in the apartment, all housemates who test negative of COVID-19 would officially enter the Big Brother house. [12] [13] One of the eighteen housemates would be evicted from the show.

During the first week of BB ZOOM, every housemate and the public on the official Big Brother app evaluate their fellow housemates from 1 to 5 stars during the week. At the end of the week, the housemate that gets the best-combined score wins the title of Leader and gets immunity from the first nomination. In a case of a tie, the public ratings have prevalence. During the eviction show on Day 64, it was revealed that two ex-housemates would return to the house on the following eviction show on Day 71. However, they would not compete for the main prize. A vote to return was opened on the official app and every Evicted housemate until Week 8 was eligible to return (Angélica, Daniel Monteiro, Edmar, Fábio, Hélder, Jéssica, Renato, Rui and Slávia), meaning only Pedro Soá (Ejected), Sónia (Walked) and Daniel Guerreiro (Evictee of Week 9) could not return. [16] On Day 71 it was revealed the ex-housemates that were selected would not return as official housemates competing for the main prize, but for a different prize between them in which they would face off in several challenges, and the winner between them would win a trip to Madeira.
On the finale night, it was revealed that Daniel Monteiro succeeded the most challenges and won the trip.

Big Brother is a Dutch reality competition television franchise created by John de Mol Jr., first broadcast in the Netherlands in 1999 and subsequently syndicated internationally. The show features contestants called "housemates" or "HouseGuests" who live together in a specially constructed house that is isolated from the outside world. The name is inspired by Big Brother from George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four, and the housemates are continuously monitored during their stay in the house by live television cameras as well as personal audio microphones. Throughout the course of the competition, they are voted out until only one remains and wins the cash prize.
Big Brother Portugal is the Portuguese version of the international reality television franchise Big Brother, produced by Endemol for Portuguese channel TVI. TVI launched the show in 2000. Since its beginning, it has been a great success.
Big Brother Brasil 10 was the tenth season of Big Brother Brasil. It began on January 12, 2010, and ended on March 30, 2010, on the Rede Globo television network. The show was produced by Endemol Globo and presented by the news reporter Pedro Bial. The season was officially confirmed in 2008 as part of a millionaire contract between international Endemol and Rede Globo. The prize award was R$1,500,000 without tax allowances. The winner was a 37-year-old physical education teacher, Marcelo Dourado, from Porto Alegre, Rio Grande do Sul, who won with 60% of 154,878,460 votes cast, a worldwide record. He had previously appeared on Big Brother Brasil 4, when he finished in seventh place. Anamara Barreira and Elieser Ambrosio returned to compete as veterans in Big Brother Brasil 13, where they were placed 8th and 10th respectively.
Big Brother Brasil 11 was the eleventh season of Big Brother Brasil, which premiered January 11, 2011 with the season finale airing March 29, 2011 on the Rede Globo television network.
Secret Story - Casa dos Segredos 2 is the second season of the Portuguese version of the reality show Secret Story, based on the original French version and on Big Brother. The series started on 18 September and will finish on 31 December, lasting 105 days. It is broadcast on TVI and produced by Endemol Portugal. That was the last time that the finale took place in Campo Pequeno, Lisbon.

The first season of Big Brother VIP was confirmed on March 13, 2013 by TVI and premiered on 21 April 2013. The season was hosted by Teresa Guilherme and came with a live channel to watch the Housemates 24 hours a day. This is the first celebrity edition of Big Brother in Portugal to use the name Big Brother VIP and the third overall after the format aired under the name Big Brother Famosos for two seasons.
Big Brother Brasil 14 was the fourteenth season of Big Brother Brasil which premiered January 14, 2014, with the season finale airing April 1, 2014 on the Rede Globo television network.
Secret Story - Casa dos Segredos 5 is the fifth season of the Portuguese reality television show Secret Story. It is based on the French version of Secret Story, which itself is based on the international format, Big Brother. The reality show is being broadcast on TVI. The casting were opened on June 11, 2014. The launch was on September 21, 2014. The finale was on December 31, 2014, and Elisabete was the winner. This was the first time a woman won a normal edition of Portuguese Secret Story.
Big Brother 2015, also known as Big Brother 16 and Big Brother: Timebomb, was the sixteenth series of the British reality television series Big Brother, hosted by Emma Willis and narrated by Marcus Bentley. The series launched on Channel 5 in the United Kingdom and TV3 in the Republic of Ireland on 12 May 2015 and ended on 16 July 2015, a week earlier than planned. This was the earliest launch of a Big Brother series since the show's inception in 2000. It is the fifth regular series and the thirteenth series of Big Brother overall to air on Channel 5, and is the first regular series to air in May since Big Brother 8 in 2007. It is also the first series to air in Ireland since its move to Channel 5 in 2011. On 2 February 2015, it was revealed that Willis had stepped down as a host on the show's spin-off series Big Brother's Bit on the Side, though Rylan Clark will continue.
Secret Story - Casa dos Segredos: Desafio Final 3 was the third all-stars season with housemates from seasons 2 to 5 of the Portuguese version of the reality show Secret Story, which based on the original French version and of Big Brother. The season started on 4 January 2015, and ended on 22 February 2015, making it the longest Desafio Final season so far. The prize is €15,000. The season was officially confirmed on 30 November 2014 when season 5 was airing, and it was given 3 passes to this season on that date. Portugal is the third country worldwide to have three all-star seasons of the format.
Secret Story - Casa dos Segredos: Luta Pelo Poder is the new all-stars format of the Portuguese version of the reality show Secret Story, which based on the original French version and of Big Brother. Desafio Final 3 housemates won't be able to participate in this season.
A Quinta is the third season of the Portuguese version of the reality show The Farm, which was broadcast by TVI. The last two seasons were known as Quinta das Celebridades and ran between 2004 and 2005. The format came back 10 years after, however this time it'll have a mix of celebrities and anonymous contestants. Teresa Guilherme will be the host, unlike last two seasons which had Júlia Pinheiro as the host. The applications officially opened on July 28. Applications were supposed to end on August 31, however probably due to a low number of applications it was postponed to September 15, when they finally ended. After some speculations that the season would premiere on the night of the legislative election, it was officially confirmed that it would premiere the day before, on October 3. There will be a 24-hour channel, however this time it'll be exclusive of NOS. The final prize money for the winner is €20,000.

Big Brother 6, also known as Big Brother: A Revolução, is the sixth season of the Portuguese version of the reality show Big Brother. It's the second original format of Big Brother to air in 2020, one month after the fifth season ended on 2 August 2020. It was also revealed on 5 July 2020 during the live eviction show that the audition for Big Brother 6 was open and the show will be called "Big Brother: A Revolução". The show is featuring a new format and rules, housemates will have to be more interactive and competitive in the house if they want to win.
