Big Nazo is an improv performance group launched in 1986 and headquartered in Providence, Rhode Island. [1] Erminio Pinque, the founder and artistic designer of Big Nazo, envisioned his concept as a puppet show without the stage. [2]

Contents

Big Nazo, which derives its name from "big nose" in Italian, runs a "creature class" in conjunction with the Rhode Island School of Design Film and Video Department during the winter semester. [3]

Performances

The Big Nazo troupe frequently appears at local cultural events such as parades, [4] [5] Lumina Festival [6] and PVDFest. [7] Outside of Rhode Island, the group has performed in New York, Chicago, Nashville, Los Angeles, New Orleans, Quebec, Nova Scotia, Japan, Portugal and Scotland. [8] The troupe has appeared at the 2010 Winter Olympics [2] and was a featured guest at the Maine Eclipse Festival in 2024. [8]

Claudia Lennear is an American soul singer and educator. Lennear began her performing with the Superbs before becoming an Ikette in the Ike & Tina Turner Revue. She was also a background vocalist for various acts, including Joe Cocker, Leon Russell, and Freddie King. She released her only solo album in 1973. Lennear was featured in the 2013 Oscar-winning documentary 20 Feet from Stardom. She was inducted in the Rhode Island Music Hall of Fame in 2019.

The Fracas! Improv Festival is a three-day annual improvisational theatre festival held at The University of Southern California in Los Angeles, California. The festival is hosted by Second Nature Improv, one of USC's improv troupes. In addition to performances, the festival hosts discussion panels with professional improvisers currently working in television, film, and/or theatre, as well as improv workshops. While the performances and panels are open to the public, workshops are available only to registered festival participants.

Starla and Sons is a longform improv comedy group at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island. The group was formed with five members in the fall of 2006. It is the second longform group in the university's history, and has performed about twice a month since its inception. The group currently has eight members, and performs fast-paced traditional longform forms like the Harold, Deconstruction, and Monoscene, as well as its own invention, the Starla.
