Big Shiny Cars is the third and final album by American country music band Pinmonkey. It was released in 2006 via Back Porch Records. The album contains the single "That Train Don't Run".
The only single off the album was "That Train Don't Run", a cover of Matraca Berg. [1] Also included is a cover of Bruce Robison's "Wrapped". Elizabeth Cook and Rusty Young provide backing vocals on "Coldest Fire in Town". [2]
Country Standard Time writer Jeffrey B. Remz praised the album's country rock sound and Reynolds's lead vocals. He also stated that "They could have mixed it up with more sonic diversity, but at least what they offer is high quality." [3] Writing for Country Weekly , Chris Neal gave the album three out of five stars. He described the band as having "crisp harmonies" and a "bracing country rock sound". [4] Jonathan Keefe of Slant Magazine rated the album three-and-a-half stars out of five. He praised the band's choices of cover songs and original material, but thought the former resulted in uneven sequencing. He also considered the cover of "That Train Don't Run" inferior to Berg's original in terms of sound. [2]
Pinmonkey was an American country music band from Nashville, Tennessee. The band was formed in 2002 by Michael Reynolds, brothers Michael Jeffers and Chad Jeffers, and Rick Schell. The band released two albums in 2002: Speak No Evil independently, and Pinmonkey via BNA Records. The latter produced two singles in "Barbed Wire and Roses" and a cover of Cyndi Lauper's "I Drove All Night", both of which charted on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts. Schell and Chad Jeffers both left in 2005, with Mike Crouch briefly replacing the former. After these membership changes, Pinmonkey released their third album Big Shiny Cars on Back Porch Records in 2006 before disbanding. Afterward, the Jeffers brothers became backing musicians for other artists, Schell joined Pure Prairie League, and Reynolds released a solo album. Pinmonkey received general critical favor for Reynolds's singing voice, bluegrass and country rock influences, and the breadth of their cover song choices.
Patty Loveless is an American country music singer. She began performing in her teenaged years before signing her first recording contract with MCA Records' Nashville division in 1985. While her first few releases were unsuccessful, she broke through by decade's end with a cover of George Jones's "If My Heart Had Windows". Loveless issued five albums on MCA before moving to Epic Records in 1993, where she released nine more albums. Four of her albums—Honky Tonk Angel, Only What I Feel, When Fallen Angels Fly, and The Trouble with the Truth—are certified platinum in the United States. Loveless has charted 44 singles on the Billboard Hot Country Songs charts, including five which reached number one: "Timber, I'm Falling in Love", "Chains", "Blame It on Your Heart", "You Can Feel Bad", and "Lonely Too Long".

Besides most of her own material, Berg has written hits for T.G. Sheppard, Karen Brooks, Trisha Yearwood, Deana Carter, Patty Loveless, Kenny Chesney and others. In 2008 she was inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame and in 2018 she received the Poet's Award from the Academy of Country Music Awards.
