Bihar Police Academy is the civil service institute for training of Bihar Police Service Officers and Bihar Police in the state of Bihar.^[1] The academy's new campus is located in Rajgir.

The academy is the state civil service training institution for Bihar Police Service Officers and Bihar Police in the state of Bihar. The institute provides training to new police recruits and current police employees in the ranks of Deputy Superintendent of Police/Assistant Commandant/Assistant Commissioner of Police and above ranks of Bihar Police Service and also to ranks below it such as Inspector of Police , Sub Inspector of Police, Assistant Sub Inspector of Police, Head Constable and Constable under Bihar Police . It also provides training in various fields to serving state police officers.

History

In undivided Bihar, the Police Academy was located in Hazaribagh imparting training to state police officers. On 15 November 2000, Hazaribagh became a part of Jharkhand.^[2] This left Bihar without a Police Academy and the officers were getting trained at Constable Training School at Nathnagar, Bhagalpur.

New campus

After loss of Police Academy to Jharkhand, Government of Bihar started the process to set up a new campus for Bihar Police Academy in Rajgir, Bihar. The academy was inaugurated on 3 December 2018 by chief minister shri Nitish Kumar. The budget for the new campus is Rs. 206 Crores and the area of the campus is 133 acres. The campus is being built as a Green building.^[3] The campus also includes an auditorium with the capacity to seat 1,500 and two huge parade grounds - one ceremonial and another for practice.

Training

The Bihar Police Academy trains officers of the Bihar Police, who have been selected through Examination conducted by Bihar Public Service Commission and Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission. The trained officers are then posted in their respective ranks in various parts of the states under whom the other sub-ranks of police force work. The recruitment of sub-ranks such as constables and other subordinate positions are done by various commissions in the state. The academy has capacity to train 2,200 sub-inspector and 200 DSP-rank officers.

The Academy is headed by a Director, an IPS officer of the rank of Additional Director General of Police (3-star rank).^[4]

Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy (SVPNPA) is the civil service training institution in India. The institute trains Indian Police Service (IPS) officers before they are sent to their respective state cadres to carry out their duties. The academy is in Shivrampalli, Hyderabad, Telangana, India.

The State Police Services (SPS), also simply known as State Police, are the police services under the control of respective state governments of the states and union territories of India.

Sunit Kumar, is a retired Indian Police Service (I.P.S.) officer of Bihar cadre in India and served as Chairman of Bihar Police Subordinate Services Commission (BPSSC) in the state of Bihar from April 2017 to November 2020. He has also served as Director General of Police in the state of Bihar retiring from service in November 2015. He belongs to the I.P.S. batch of 1980. He has also served as Director of Bihar Police Academy and Chairman of the Bihar Central Selection Board of Constable (CSBC).

Rajeev Kumar is a former Director General of Police of the state of Jharkhand. He held highly responsible positions during his career. He is a 1991 batch IPS officer. He was appointed as the DGP Jharkhand in the year 2013 and served for two years thereafter. In the year 1997, he was awarded the President's Police Medal for Meritorious services and in the year 2014, he was also awarded the President's Police Medal for Distinguished services.

Pramod Kumar Thakur or P. K. Thakur, is a retired Indian Police Service (I.P.S.) officer of Bihar state in India, currently serving as Information commissioner in the state of Bihar. He served as Director General of Police of Bihar Police from June 2014 until his retirement in February 2018. He belongs to the I.P.S. batch of 1980. He has also served as Director General in Bihar. He was awarded with National Security Guard Disc for his outstanding work in the Central Police Organization as Inspector General (Administration). He was appointed on the post of Information commissioner of Bihar State Information Commission in October 2018.

The National Industrial Security Academy is the premier training institution of Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) for training in industrial security and disaster management. The Academy is spread over 245-acre (99 ha) of land and is located in Hakimpet on the Rajiv Gandhi State Highway, Medchal–Malkajgiri District, of Hyderabad, Telangana.

Civil Police Officer is the designation given to a police constable in the Kerala Police, followed by a Senior Civil Police Officer (SCPO) for head constable. Both CPO and SCPO belongs to the Kerala Civil Police Subordinate Service (KCP). A CPO has no shoulder insignia, while an SCPO has three stripes or chevrons. More than half of the force is made up of civil police officers. They work in police stations, traffic police units, and other local police units in Kerala.
