William C. Friend (born July 14,1949) [1] is an American politician who served as a member of the Indiana House of Representatives from 1992 to 2018. In January 2018,Friend announced that he would not be running for reelection. [2] [3]
Friend graduated from North Miami High School in 1967. He has a Bachelor of Science degree in biology from the University of Indianapolis.
He previously served as Allen Township Trustee/Assessor,a member of the Miami County Council,and Miami County Auditor.
Friend has served in the Indiana House of Representatives since 1992. He is currently House Majority Leader. His district includes parts of Elkhart,Fulton,Kosciusko,Marshall and Miami Counties. He serves on the Agriculture and Rural Development committees.
Friend lives in Macy,Indiana with his wife,Ann Friend. They have three children and two grandchildren.
Little Turtle was a Sagamore (chief) of the Miami people,who became one of the most famous Native American military leaders. Historian Wiley Sword calls him "perhaps the most capable Indian leader then in the Northwest Territory," although he later signed several treaties ceding land,which caused him to lose his leader status during the battles which became a prelude to the War of 1812. In the 1790s,Mihšihkinaahkwa led a confederation of native warriors to several major victories against U.S. forces in the Northwest Indian Wars,sometimes called "Little Turtle's War",particularly St. Clair's defeat in 1791,wherein the confederation defeated General Arthur St. Clair,who lost 900 men in the most decisive loss by the U.S. Army against Native American forces.

James Noble Tyner was a lawyer,U.S. Representative from Indiana and U.S. Postmaster General. Tyner was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 1869 and served three terms from 1869 to 1875.

John William Elmer Thomas was a native of Indiana who moved to Oklahoma Territory in 1901,where he practiced law in Lawton. After statehood,he was elected to the first state senate,representing the Lawton area. In 1922,he ran successfully on the Democratic Party ticket for the U.S. House of Representatives from Oklahoma. He was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in 1926;he won this race and held the seat until 1950,when he lost the party nomination to A.S. (Mike) Monroney. Thomas returned to a private law practice in Washington,D.C.,and in 1957 moved his practice back to Lawton,where he died in 1965.

William Steele Holman was a lawyer,judge and politician from Dearborn County,Indiana. He was a member of the Democratic Party who served four different stints as a U.S. Representative from 1859 to 1865,1867 to 1877,1881 to 1895,and 1897,spanning sixteen Congresses. He is known for originating the Holman Rule,allowing amendments to appropriations bills to cut a specific program or federal employee salary. He died in office in 1897,a month after his last election.

William Richard Keating is an American lawyer and politician serving as the U.S. representative for Massachusetts's 9th congressional district since 2013.
