Michael Karickhoff is an American politician and member of the Indiana House of Representatives,representing the 30th District since 2010. Prior to his election to the state legislature,Karickhoff,a member of the Republican Party,was a Kokomo,Indiana Councilman. He was endorsed and recruited by Governor Mitch Daniels to run for Representative in the 2010 Indiana elections. [2]

A member of the a Republican Party,Daniels served as member of the Illinois House of Representatives from 1975 to 2007,representing the 40th district from 1975 to 1983,and the 46th district from 1983 to 2007. Daniels also Chaired the Illinois Republican Party from 2001 until his resignation in 2002,and served as President of the National Conference of State Legislatures from 1989 to 1990.
Michael Brendan Murphy served as a Republican member of the Indiana House of Representatives,representing the 90th District from 1994 to 2010. A conservative,Murphy was known for his speeches on behalf of free markets,adherence to the 10th Amendment,and elimination of government regulation. Murphy authored the most sweeping de-regulation of the telecommunications industry (2006) for its time. His bill was signed into law by Governor Mitch Daniels. Murphy also led the effort to cut the Indiana Inheritance Tax in half,and authored an amendment to the Indiana Constitution,which set up a succession order in Indiana state government. The citizens of Indiana approved the amendment in the November,2004 election.

The 2008 Indiana gubernatorial election was held on November 4,2008. Incumbent Republican nominee Mitch Daniels was challenged by Democratic nominee Jill Long Thompson and Libertarian nominee Andy Horning. Daniels easily won reelection,defeating Long Thompson by over 17 points. Despite Daniels' landslide victory,Barack Obama narrowly carried Indiana in the concurrent presidential election;the only Democratic candidate to do so since 1964. As of 2024,this is the last election Marion County would vote Republican for governor and a statewide race.
Indiana's 7th congressional district special election of 2008 took place March 11,2008,to fill the seat in the United States House of Representatives left vacant by the death of 7th district representative Julia Carson (D) on December 15,2007. The election determined who would fill the vacancy for the rest of the 110th United States Congress. Indiana Gov. Mitch Daniels set the date for the special election. Both political parties had previously agreed to this date. Democrat AndréCarson won the election with an 18.17% voter turnout.
Karen Rae Tallian is an American politician and attorney who served as a member of the Indiana Senate for the 4th district from December 2005 through October 2021. She was re-elected in 2006,2010 and 2014. While serving in the Senate,Tallian,a progressive,has supported medicinal prescription and the decriminalization of marijuana,and has authored bills in its favor. In 2015,she announced her candidacy for governor of Indiana but dropped out that same year,well before the primary season. Tallian was also a candidate for the Democratic Party nomination for Indiana Attorney General in 2020,but lost the nomination to Jonathan Weinzapfel.

Incumbent Republican governor Eric Holcomb is term-limited and cannot seek re-election to a third consecutive term in office. Primary elections took place on May 7,2024,in which Republican U.S. Senator Mike Braun,Democratic former state Superintendent of Public Instruction Jennifer McCormick,and Libertarian software engineer Donald Rainwater won their respective parties' nominations. Braun defeated McCormick with 54.5 percent of the vote in the general election.
