Robin C. Shackleford (born October 30,1970) is an American politician who has served in the Indiana House of Representatives from the 98th district since 2012. [1] [2]
On November 10,2022,Shackleford announced her intention to run for mayor of Indianapolis in 2023. [3] Shackleford lost to incumbent Mayor Joe Hogsett by 20.5 percent in the 2023 Democratic primary. [4]

Joseph Hadden Hogsett is an American attorney,prosecutor,and politician who is the 49th mayor of Indianapolis,Indiana. Prior to being elected,Hogsett served as the Secretary of State of Indiana from 1989 to 1994 and as the Chairman of the Indiana Democratic Party from 2003 to 2004. He was the Democratic nominee for the U.S. Senate in 1992,for Indiana's 2nd congressional district in 1994 and for Attorney General of Indiana in 2004. He most recently served as the United States attorney for the Southern District of Indiana from 2010 to 2014. On November 3,2015,he won the race for Mayor of Indianapolis in the 2015 election. He won reelection to a second term in 2019. In 2023,he won reelection to a third term in office.

Republicans nominated former Marine Chuck Brewer to face Hogsett.
The 2015 Indianapolis City–County Council elections took place on November 3,2015. With all 25 seats up for election,this was the first for the council with newly redrawn districts and without the four at-large seats,which were eliminated by the Republican-controlled Indiana General Assembly in 2013. Before the elections Democrats held a 15–14 seat majority. Primaries for the council were held on May 5,2015,with a handful of races being very close. The closest finish came in district one,with two Democratic incumbents forced into a run-off election because of the redistricting. Leroy Robinson defeated Angela Mansfield by only 26 votes. Following the elections Democrats maintained control of the council with a 13–12 majority. In the Indianapolis mayoral election held at the same time,Democrat Joe Hogsett beat Republican Chuck Brewer. This is only the second time in the history of Indianapolis that Democrats control both the mayor's office and the council.
Old Indianapolis City Hall,formerly known as the Indiana State Museum,is a historic city hall located at Indianapolis,Indiana. It was built in 1909–1910,and is a four-story,Classical Revival style brick building sheathed in Indiana limestone. It measures 188 by 133 feet.

The Confederate Soldiers and Sailors Monument was a large granite monument that sat at the south entrance of Garfield Park in Indianapolis for nearly a century,before being removed in 2020. It commemorated the Confederate prisoners of war that died at Camp Morton. At 35 feet (11 m) tall and located in the city's oldest public park,it had been the most prominent of the very few Confederate memorials in the Union state of Indiana. It was dismantled and removed by the city of Indianapolis in June 2020 after a yearslong debate,part of a national wave of removal of Confederate memorials during the Black Lives Matter movement.

The 2019 Indianapolis City–County Council elections took place on November 5,2019 with all 25 seats up for election. Before the elections Democrats held a 14–11-seat majority. Primaries for the council were held May 7,2019. Following the elections Democrats expanded their control of the council with a 20–5 majority. This marked the first time in Indianapolis history that Democrats would hold a super majority on the council. In the Indianapolis mayoral election held at the same time,Democrat Joe Hogsett beat Republican Jim Merritt 72% to 27%.
The 2023 United States elections were held,in large part,on Tuesday,November 7,2023. The off-year election included gubernatorial and state legislative elections in a few states,as well as numerous citizen initiatives,mayoral races,and a variety of other local offices on the ballot. At least three special elections to the United States Congress were scheduled as either deaths or vacancies arose. The Democratic Party retained control of the governorship in Kentucky,flipped the Wisconsin Supreme Court and held a seat on the Pennsylvania Supreme Court,gained six seats in the New Jersey General Assembly,and won back unified control of the Virginia General Assembly,while Republicans also flipped the governorship in Louisiana and narrowly retained Mississippi's governorship. The election cycle also saw Ohio voting to enshrine abortion rights in the state constitution and legalize cannabis for recreational use. The results were widely seen as a success for the Democratic Party.

General Ordinance 34 of the Indianapolis-Marion County City-County Council is a local ordinance,passed in July 2023,that would enact various gun control measures within Indianapolis and Marion County if permitted by the Indiana state legislature. The ordinance's measures were proposed by Mayor Joe Hogsett's administration,and it was passed by the Democratic-controlled council. The passage took place during a mayoral election season,in which rising violent crime rates were a key election issue,and crime and gun control were a source of considerable debate locally and beyond.
