Jeffrion L. Aubry (born February 8,1948) [1] is an American politician who represents District 35 in the New York State Assembly, [2] which comprises East Elmhurst,LeFrak City,and parts of Corona,Woodside,Elmhurst and Rego Park,Queens. [3]
Aubry was born in New Orleans,Louisiana. He received a Bachelor of Arts from the College of Santa Fe (later the Santa Fe University of Art and Design) in 1969. [4]
For sixteen years,he served as an employee of Elmcor Youth and Adult Activities (a not-for-profit organization [5] ),holding various positions,including executive director, [1] and was also a teacher at New Mexico State Penitentiary for Eastern New Mexico University. [1]
Prior to his election to the Assembly,Aubry served in a number of capacities within city government including as the director of economic development for the Office of the borough president of Queens and as the Queens representative to the Economic Development Corporation of the City of New York. He has also served as the chairman of the Small Business Development Center's advisory board at York College and as a consultant for Massand Associates,an engineering firm. [2]
Chosen in a special election in 1992, [6] Aubry ran uncontested in the 2008 and 2010 general elections. [7] [8] He is currently a member of the Committee on Governmental Employees,Committee on Rules,Committee on Social Services and Committee on Ways and Means. [9] Assemblyman Aubry is also a member of the Black,Puerto Rican,Hispanic &Asian Legislative Caucus. [9] As the chairman of corrections,he introduced The Drug Law Reform,Drug Treatment and Crime Reduction Act of 2001, [10] also known as the reform of the Rockefeller drug laws. [11] Aubry stated the Rockefeller drug laws is "a failed policy that we can no longer sustain." [11] Aubry is also a member of the Council of State Governments and is a recognized "Toll Fellow." [12]
Aubry also serves as the chairman of the board of the Council of State Governments' Justice Center, [13] a national organization which provides technical assistance to states to develop data driven consensus supported criminal justice policies to reduce crime and decrease the cost of incarceration nationwide. Joseph Crowley is a former American politician and consultant who served as U.S. Representative from New York's 14th congressional district from 1999 to 2019. He was defeated by Democratic primary challenger Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez in what was viewed as one of the biggest upsets of the 2018 midterm elections.
The Rockefeller Drug Laws are the statutes dealing with the sale and possession of "narcotic" drugs in the New York State Penal Law. The laws are named after Nelson Rockefeller,who was the state's governor at the time the laws were adopted. Rockefeller had previously backed drug rehabilitation,job training and housing as strategies,having seen drugs as a social problem rather than a criminal one,but did an about-face during a period of mounting national anxiety about drug use and crime. Rockefeller,who pushed hard for the laws,was seen by some contemporary commentators as trying to build a "tough on crime" image in anticipation of a bid for the Republican presidential nomination in 1976. The bill was signed into law by Governor Rockefeller on May 8,1973.
David Ira Weprin is a Democratic member of the New York State Assembly,representing District 24 in Queens since 2010,when he replaced his brother Mark. In the Assembly he has supported progressive causes,such as a surcharge on millionaires,and granting immediate parole to prisoners who have reached 55 years of age and served 15 years in prison,regardless of their sentence. He was previously a member of the New York City Council,representing the 23rd district. He is also a former Deputy Superintendent of the NY State Banking Commission (1983–87).
East Elmhurst is a residential neighborhood in the northwest section of the New York City borough of Queens. It is bounded to the south by Jackson Heights and Corona,to the north and east by Bowery Bay,and to the west by Woodside and Ditmars Steinway. The area also includes LaGuardia Airport,located on the shore of Flushing Bay,LaGuardia Landing Lights Fields,and Astoria Heights.
Keith L. T. Wright is an American politician and a former member of the New York State Assembly. He was first elected to the assembly in 1992 and was re-elected eleven times. In early 2007,he proposed a bill limiting retail sale of violent video games for individuals below 18 years of age. This proposed law stirred up controversy and protest amongst gamer communities. Wright is also the author of the bill to apologize for African slavery in New York,which was second only to South Carolina in the American slave trade,the first Northern State make such an apology. Wright is also credited with coining the term "Super-Duper Tuesday" in response to the shifting of New York's election primary date to the 5th of February. This is now the common terminology for the change of dates nationwide.
John D. Sabini is the former chairman of the New York State Racing and Wagering Board. He was confirmed by the New York State Senate in August 2008 and served until 2013. Sabini had previously been a member of the State Senate,a Democrat,serving from 2003 to 2008,and represented parts of Jackson Heights,Corona,East Elmhurst,Elmhurst and Woodside. He had previously represented much of the same area as a member of New York City Council from 1992 to 2001.
Lee Albert Daniels is an American retired politician who served as the Speaker of the Illinois House of Representatives from 1995 to 1997,and as the Minority Leader from 1997 to 2003. A member of the a Republican Party,Daniels served as member of the Illinois House of Representatives from 1975 to 2007,representing the 40th district from 1975 to 1983,and the 46th district from 1983 to 2007. Daniels also Chaired the Illinois Republican Party from 2001 until his resignation in 2002,and served as President of the National Conference of State Legislatures from 1989 to 1990.
Hiram Monserrate is an American politician and convicted felon from the State of New York. A Democrat,Monserrate represented New York's 13th State Senate District in Queens from January 1,2009 until February 9,2010,when he was expelled from office following a misdemeanor conviction for assaulting his then-girlfriend. He later served time in prison following a plea of guilty to federal corruption charges. Monserrate is also a former Marine,a former New York City police officer,and a former member of the New York City Council.

JoséRafael Peralta was an American politician who served in the New York State Assembly and New York State Senate. A member of the Democratic Party,he last represented District 13 in the State Senate,which includes the Queens neighborhoods of Corona,East Elmhurst,Elmhurst,Jackson Heights,and Woodside. He previously represented District 39 in the New York State Assembly,which is located in Queens,New York and includes Corona,Elmhurst and Jackson Heights. He was elected to the New York State Senate in a landslide on March 16,2010. Peralta was a member of the Independent Democratic Conference (IDC),a group of Democratic senators who allied themselves with Senate Republicans. He was re-elected in 2012,2014 and 2016,but was defeated in the 2018 Democratic primary.

A member of the Democratic Party,her district is in the New York City borough of Queens;it includes Bayside,East Elmhurst,Elmhurst,Flushing,Forest Hills,Fresh Meadows,Glendale,Jackson Heights,Kew Gardens,Maspeth,Middle Village and Rego Park. Meng represented the 22nd district in the New York State Assembly from 2009 until 2012. She is the first Asian American elected to Congress from New York.
Julissa Ferreras-Copeland is an American politician. She is the former New York City Council Member for the 21st district from 2009 to 2017,which includes portions of College Point,Corona,East Elmhurst,Elmhurst,Flushing,Flushing Meadows Corona Park,Jackson Heights and LaGuardia Airport in the New York City borough of Queens. During her tenure,Ferreras-Copeland served as the chairman of the Finance Committee. She was the first woman,the first person of color,and the youngest member to be elected Finance Chair. She is a Democrat.
Daniel Lee Feldman is an American lawyer,author,politician and professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. He was a member of the New York State Assembly from 1981 to 1998,representing the 45th Assembly District,which includes part of Manhattan Beach,Brighton Beach and Sheepshead Bay. In 2016,Feldman was elected as a fellow for the National Academy of Public Administration.

Tiffany Cabán is an American attorney,politician,and political organizer who has served as a member of the New York City Council for the 22nd District since the 2021 New York City Council election. She won the Democratic primary for the seat after the incumbent,Democrat Costa Constantinides,retired.
