Kenneth D. Blankenbush [3] (born September 14,1947) [1] is an American politician and a Republican member of the New York State Assembly.
He succeeded former assemblywoman Dede Scozzafava,a liberal Republican who retired. Blankenbush is a longtime resident of Black River. His district includes Lewis County and parts of Oswego,Saint Lawrence and Jefferson Counties.
Blankenbush graduated from Rush-Henrietta High School in Henrietta,New York. Upon completing two years at Monroe Community College,he earned a Bachelor of Science degree in history from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. He served in the United States Air Force from 1968 to 1976,during that he was deployed and served in Vietnam and was then stationed at Plattsburgh Air Force Base. [2]
In 1976,Blankenbush began his professional career with Metropolitan Life Insurance Company and worked his way up to branch manager of the regional office in Watertown. After a successful tenure at Metropolitan,he left to start BEL Associates,his own insurance and financial services business in Watertown. [2]
A town councilman for the town of Le Ray for eight years,Blankenbush went on to serve his community as a member of the Jefferson County Board of Legislators,and served two terms as chairman. [2]
In November 2010,he was elected to the State Assembly. [4]
Jefferson County is a county on the northern border of the U.S. state of New York. As of the 2020 census,the population was 116,721. Its county seat is Watertown. The county is named after Thomas Jefferson,third President of the United States of America. It is adjacent to Lake Ontario,southeast from the Canada–US border of Ontario.
Plattsburgh is a city in,and the seat of,Clinton County,New York,United States,situated on the north-western shore of Lake Champlain. The population was 19,841 at the 2020 census. The population of the surrounding Town of Plattsburgh was 11,886 as of the 2020 census,making the combined population of Plattsburgh to be 31,727. Plattsburgh lies just to the northeast of Adirondack Park,immediately outside of the park boundaries. It is the second largest community in the North Country region,and serves as the main commercial hub for the sparsely populated northern Adirondack Mountains. Samuel de Champlain was the first ever recorded European that sailed into Champlain Valley and later claimed the region as a part of New France in 1609.
Watertown is a city in,and the county seat of,Jefferson County,New York,United States. It is approximately 25 miles (40 km) south of the Thousand Islands,along the Black River about 5 miles (8 km) east of where it flows into Lake Ontario. The city is bordered by the town of Watertown to the south,east,and west,and is served by the Watertown International Airport and the Watertown Daily Times newspaper. In the middle of Watertown lies the Public Square Historic District,which was built in 1805 and listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) in 1984. Watertown is located 13 miles southwest of the U.S. Army base at Fort Drum;it is the service and shopping destination for personnel there and their families. WPTZ and WNNE share studios on Community Drive in South Burlington,Vermont,with a secondary studio and news bureau on Cornelia Street in Plattsburgh. Through a channel sharing agreement,the two stations transmit using WPTZ's spectrum from an antenna on Vermont's highest peak,Mount Mansfield.
New York State Route 3 (NY 3) is a major east–west state highway in New York,in the United States,that connects central New York to the North Country region near the Canada–US border via Adirondack Park.
