Claire Valdez is an American politician from New York City. [1]

Career

Valdez serves as a program assistant in the visual arts program at Columbia University. [2] She is a unionist with the United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America International Union and is an activist with the Democratic Socialists of America. [3] [4]

In the 2024 New York State Assembly election, Valdez was a candidate in the 37th district. In the Democratic Party primary, Valdez defeated incumbent Juan Ardila by 27 percentage points. [5] She was endorsed by Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and had the support from the Working Families Party. [6] [7] She will run unopposed for the seat in the November general election.

Personal life

Valdez moved to New York City from Texas in 2019 and lives in Ridgewood, Queens. [8] [9] She is of Latino descent. [10]
