Mundell served on the commission from 1999 until 2009 as a Republican. Mundell served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 1986 to 1992, also as a Republican.
The Arizona State Senate is part of the Arizona Legislature, the state legislature of the US state of Arizona. The Senate consists of 30 members each representing an average of 219,859 constituents. Members serve two-year terms with term limits that limit Senators to a maximum four consecutive terms before requiring a one-term respite prior to running again. A majority of governors have the authority to appoint state court judges as well, in most cases from a list of names submitted by a nominations committee.

Diane Joyce Humetewa is a United States district judge of the United States District Court for the District of Arizona. Humetewa is the first Native American woman and the first enrolled tribal member to serve as a U.S. federal judge. She previously served as the United States Attorney for the District of Arizona from 2007 to 2009. Humetewa is also a Professor of Practice at Arizona State University's Sandra Day O'Connor College of Law.

David M. Gowan Sr. is an American politician who currently serves in the Arizona Senate from January 14, 2019, and previously as Speaker of the Arizona House of Representatives for the 2015–2017 legislative session and a Representative for Legislative District 14 from January 14, 2013, to January 9, 2017. Gowan served consecutively from January 2009 until January 14, 2013 in the District 30 seat which redistricted into District 14 in 2012. In 2013, he was elected Majority Leader of the Republican Party in the House of Representatives. In 2015, Gowan was elected to serve as Speaker of the House. On October 5, 2015, Gowan announced his candidacy for Arizona's 1st congressional district, but withdrew before the Republican primary.
A general election was held in the U.S. state of Arizona on November 6, 2018. All of Arizona's executive offices were up for election as well as a United States Senate seat and all of Arizona's nine seats in the United States House of Representatives. The Republican Party won the majority of statewide offices, albeit by much narrower margins than in previous elections, while the Democratic Party picked up three statewide offices.

Denise "Mitzi" Epstein is an American politician and a Democratic member of the Arizona Senate elected to represent District 12 in 2022. She was previously elected to the Arizona House of Representatives to represent District 18 in 2016. She is also a computer Systems Analyst and served on the Kyrene Elementary School District Governing Board from 2005 until 2008. She was selected to serve as Minority Leader of the Arizona Senate in March 2023.

Laurin Hendrix is a Republican member of the Arizona House of Representatives, representing the 14th legislative district since 2023. He previously served in the Arizona House of Representatives from 2009 through 2011. He ran for re-election in 2012, but was defeated in the Republican primary by Eddie Farnsworth and Steve R. Urie. He again ran in 2022, and was elected alongside Speaker pro tempore Travis Grantham.
