William Lansdowne (born 28 April 1959) is an English former professional footballer who played as a striker. Active in both England and Sweden, Lansdowne scored 45 goals in 169 career league games. On 24 September 2018 he was inducted into the Kalmar FF Wall of Fame. [2] [3] [4]

Career

Born in Epping, Essex, Lansdowne began his career with West Ham United, making his professional debut for the club on 28 April 1979. [5] Lansdowne later played for Charlton Athletic and Gillingham, and made a total of 47 appearances in the Football League for all three clubs. [6]

Lansdowne later spent six seasons with Swedish club Kalmar FF and was joint-top scorer in the Allsvenskan in 1985 with 10 goals. [7] He played in the 1987 Svenska Cupen Final, where Kalmar FF won. In September 2018, he was commemorated with a plaque at the Guldfågeln Arena. [8]

He later played for Leytonstone & Ilford, Dagenham and Anderstorp. [9]

After his retirement, he remained in Sweden and became a football commentator for TV4. He later commentated on greyhound racing for TV3. [10]

Personal life

Lansdowne's father Bill was also a professional footballer who played for West Ham United. [11] His son, Billy Jr, played for Nybro IF, IFK Berga and Lindsdals IF, in the lower levels of Swedish football. [12] [13]

The 2011 Svenska Cupen was the 56th season of Svenska Cupen, the main Swedish football Cup. It began on 5 March 2011 with the first match of the preliminary round and ended on 5 November with the Final. Helsingborgs IF won the cup after beating Kalmar FF 3–1 in the final, Helsingborg were also the defending champions. The winners of this competition earned a place in the second qualifying round of the 2012–13 UEFA Europa League, however the second round spot was awarded to Allsvenskan runners-up AIK since Helsingborg were already qualified for European cup play, Kalmar FF who were the runners-up of the cup were awarded AIKs previous qualification spot in the first round.

The 1986–87 Svenska Cupen was the 32nd season of the main Swedish football Cup. The competition started in 1986 and concluded in 1987 with the final, held at Råsunda Stadium, Solna Municipality in Stockholms län. Kalmar FF won the final 2–0 against GAIS.

The 1987 Svenska Cupen final took place on 29 June 1987 at Råsunda in Solna. The match was contested by the back then second tier Div II teams Kalmar FF and GAIS. GAIS played their first final since 1942 and their second final in total, Kalmar played their first final since 1981 and their 2nd final in total. Kalmar FF won their 2nd title with a 2–0 victory.
