William O'Conner Jr. (born January 2, 1987) is an American college baseball coach and former catcher. O'Conner is the head coach of the Xavier Musketeers baseball team. O'Conner played college baseball at the Indiana University for coach Tracy Smith before transferring to the Xavier University to play for coach Scott Googins from 2008 to 2009.

Playing career

O'Conner attended Elder High School in Cincinnati, Ohio. O'Conner then enrolled at the Indiana University, to play college baseball for the Indiana Hoosiers baseball team.

As a freshman at the Indiana University in 2006, O'Conner had a .176 batting average, a .233 on-base percentage (OBP) and a .206 SLG.

As a sophomore in 2007, O'Conner batted .310 with a .310 SLG, 9 hits, and 9 RBIs.

In the 2008 season as a junior, O'Conner transferred to the Xavier University to play for the Xavier Musketeers baseball team and hit 5 doubles and 21 RBIs.

O'Conner had his best season as a senior in 2009, with home runs (2) and was a key contribute with RBIs (39), batting average (.333) and slugging (.412). He was named Honorable mention All-Atlantic 10 Conference baseball tournament Team. [1]

Coaching career

O'Conner joined the Xavier coaching staff as a volunteer coach in 2011. He stayed with the Musketeers through the 2012 season. O'Conner joined the Northern Kentucky Norse baseball staff as a volunteer coach in 2013. [2] He re-joined the Xavier staff in 2013 as a full-time assistant. O'Conner spent 4 seasons as an assistant for the Xavier baseball staff.

Xavier

In June 2017, O'Conner was named the head coach of the Musketeers program. [3] O'Conner lead the Musketeers to a 21–35 finish in his first season.

The Northern Kentucky Norse men's basketball team represents Northern Kentucky University in Highland Heights, Kentucky, United States. The school's athletic program began a transition to NCAA Division I in the 2012–13 school year. For the first three seasons of the transition, it was a member of the Atlantic Sun Conference. In the final season of the transition in 2015–16, the Norse joined the Horizon League. The Norse were coached by John Brannen until April 14, 2019 when he left to take a job with the University of Cincinnati Bearcats. Before him the Norse program's coach was Dave Bezold, who had an overall record of 138 wins and 72 losses. On April 23, 2019 Darrin Horn was hired as head coach by Northern Kentucky.

The program's first season was in 1974, and it has been a member of the NCAA Division I Big East Conference since the start of the 2014 season. Its home venue is J. Page Hayden Field, located on Xavier's campus. Billy O'Conner is the team's head coach starting in the 2018 season. The program has appeared in 4 NCAA Tournaments. It has won four conference tournament championships and 2 regular season conference titles. As of the start of the 2022 Major League Baseball season, 8 former Musketeers have appeared in Major League Baseball.

Scott Googins is an American college baseball coach who is the head coach of the University of Cincinnati Bearcats Baseball Team. Googins was hired on June 6, 2017. He left Xavier after being the skipper of the Musketeers baseball team since the start of the 2006 season. Under Googins, Xavier appeared in three NCAA Tournaments. In 2008, he was named the A-10 Coach of the Year, and in 2009, he was named the ABCA Mideast Region Coach of the Year. Googins is an alumnus of Ohio Wesleyan University, where he played baseball for the Battling Bishops.

The 2009 Atlantic 10 Conference Baseball Championship was held from May 20 through 23 at Fifth Third Field in Dayton, OH. It featured the top six regular-season finishers of the conference's 14 teams. Third-seeded Xavier defeated Rhode Island in the title game to win the tournament for the first time, earning the A-10's automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Tournament.

Michael J. Cole is an American college baseball coach and former third baseman, who is the current associate head baseball coach for the Army Black Knights. Cole played college baseball at the University of Vermont from 1998 to 2001 for coach Bill Currier. The Cincinnati–Xavier rivalry is a college sports rivalry between the University of Cincinnati Bearcats and the Xavier University Musketeers. The two schools are separated by less than 3 miles (4.8 km) in Cincinnati, making the archrivalry one of the closest major rivalries in the country. The rivalry dates to their first college football game between the teams in 1918. The first men's college basketball game was played in 1927, which has become the most famous sport in the rivalry, known as the Crosstown Shootout. National outlets cover the game each year, many considering that it is one of the fiercest rivalries in college basketball. The college football series would run until the Xavier Musketeers football ceased play after their final season in 1973. Many other sports at the universities, such as baseball, also face off annually.

Michael Anthony Hampton is an American college baseball coach and former third baseman. He is the interim head baseball coach at the St. John's University. Hampton played college baseball at Clemson University from 1993 to 1994 before pursuing a professional career from 1994 to 1997. In college, he was named an All-American in 1994.
