Birmingham Mela (also known as Sandwell & Birmingham Mela) is an annual South Asian themed cultural and music festival ( Mela ) held in Sandwell, bordering Birmingham, England. It was first held in 2011; in 2015, more than 120,000 people attended the festival. [1]

History

The first festival took place in July 2011 in Victoria Park, Smethwick, and had about 45,000 visitors. [1] Tickets were free.

In 2011 and 2012, the event was sponsored by the South Asian broadcaster Star TV Network. [2] Subsequent sponsors have included Zee Entertainment Enterprises and Ola Cabs. [3]

In 2020 and 2021, The Birmingham Mela was cancelled due to the Covid-19 pandemic. [4] [5] It has been scheduled to take place again in August 2022. [6]

Performers

Performers have included Mika Singh, [7] Gippy Grewal, Ali Zafar, [8] and Tiger Shroff. [9]

Baljit Singh Padam, better known by his stage name Dr. Zeus, is a British composer, singer and producer of Punjabi music who has also worked in Indian films. He rose to fame in 2003 with his song "Kangna", which was voted the best song on BBC Asian Network in the same year. His other hits are "Don't Be Shy" and "Jugni Ji". He has worked with singer Kanika Kapoor for the song "Jugni Ji" and with musician Jaz Dhami for the song "Zulfa". His song "Aag Ka Dariya" features on the Four Lions film soundtrack. A music video was also produced featuring model Yana Gupta and singers Ravindra & DJ Shortie.

Dil Dhoondta Hai is an Indian Hindi romantic drama television series, which premiered on September 21, 2017 and aired on Zee TV. The series was produced by Dashami Creations of Nitin Vaidya. The series aired on weekday's at 10:30pm. Stavan Shinde & Shivya Pathania played the main characters and Ashish Dixit & Pratiksha Jadhav in Second Pivotal lead role. it was replaced by Aap Ke Aa Jane Se in its time slot.
