The Birmingham Sabers were a team of the Continental Basketball League based in Birmingham, Alabama that began play in 2010 [1]

Contents

The team was born when the Birmingham Steel moved to the WBA. [2] The CBL commissioner, Dennis Truax, announced that Paul Smith would take over as owner of the Birmingham franchise. Several Steel players stayed with the Sabers, who also retained the team records and statistics of the Steel. [1]

Trumaine "Joe" Sykes is a professional American football defensive end who is currently a free agent. He was originally signed by the Washington Redskins as an undrafted free agent in 2006. He played college football at Southern University.

Kevin Guy is an arena football coach and former wide receiver and defensive back who is the head coach for the Arizona Rattlers of the Indoor Football League (IFL). He played his college football at the University of West Alabama, and was an AFL wide receiver and defensive back from 1996 to 1999. He has been a football coach since 2000, and first served as a head coach in 2000 as the interim head coach for the New Jersey Red Dogs. After being the defensive coordinator for the San Jose SaberCats from 2006 to 2007, he became the Rattlers head coach in 2008. Kevin Daft is an American football coach and former professional quarterback. He is currently the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Dartmouth College. He was drafted by the Tennessee Titans in the fifth round of the 1999 NFL Draft. He played college football at UC Davis.

The league expanded the locations their teams play to four total stadiums, adding Ford Field in Detroit, Michigan, and Simmons Bank Liberty Stadium in Memphis, Tennessee.
