The Birmingham Trophy was an invitational football tournament held at St Andrew's, Birmingham. The only edition took place between 8 and 9 August 1992. It was contested by four teams, one from Italy, one from Spain, and two from the host nation England.

Blyth also represented Scotland twice and was selected for their 1978 FIFA World Cup squad. He has since worked for Coventry City, Celtic and Middlesbrough as a goalkeeping coach.

The 1987 FA Cup final between Coventry City and Tottenham Hotspur on 16 May 1987 at Wembley Stadium, London, England was the 106th Final of the FA Cup, English football's primary cup competition. It was the third final for Tottenham Hotspur in seven years, the team having won the trophy in 1981 and 1982, while Coventry were making their first appearance. Both clubs were in the Football League First Division that season, giving them entry into the competition in the third round. They each won five games en route to the final, with Coventry beating Leeds United 3–2 and Tottenham beating Watford 4–1 in their respective semi-finals. Both clubs recorded songs to commemorate reaching the final. After a December league match between the two sides had finished 4–3 to Coventry, both Tottenham manager David Pleat and Coventry joint-manager John Sillett anticipated an exciting final.

The 1999 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup Final was a football match between Mallorca of Spain and Lazio of Italy played on 19 May 1999 at Villa Park, Birmingham, England. It was the final match of the 1998–99 season of the UEFA Cup Winners' Cup and the culmination of the competition before it was absorbed into the UEFA Cup the following season. Mallorca were appearing in their first final in their first season in European competition, while Lazio were also appearing in their first Cup Winners' Cup final. It was their second European final in succession after reaching the final of the UEFA Cup the previous season.

The Ramón de Carranza Trophy is a pre-season football tournament organised by Cádiz City Hall, in memory of its former mayor, Ramón de Carranza – after whom the Cádiz F.C. stadium used to be named as well. The 2017 EFL Trophy Final was an association football match that was played on 2 April 2017 at Wembley Stadium, London. It was played between League One teams Coventry City and Oxford United. The match decided the winners of the 2016–17 EFL Trophy, a 64-team knockout tournament comprising clubs from League One and League Two of the English Football League (EFL), as well as 16 Category One academy sides representing Premier League and Championship clubs. It was Coventry's first appearance in the final and the second for Oxford, who were beaten by Barnsley in the previous season's match.
