Blue Veins (Pakistan)

Blue Veins is based in Peshawar, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is a women's health advocacy group that has dedicated itself to providing medical information to poor and rural women in Pakistan. Blue Veins is involved in helping women secure their rights and to be able to contribute to peaceful resolutions of conflict. [1]

Blue Veins works with grassroots organizations for both men and women to secure and maintain women's rights in Khyber Pakthtunkhwa (KPK). [2] This has included ensuring women have the right to vote in Peshawar. [3] Blue Veins has also trained women on how to avoid harassment in the workplace. [4]

Blue Veins has also helped transgender people in Pakistan. [5] They have provided help and resources, such as giving out sewing machines to individuals in the transgender community. [6]

Blue Veins is a member of the End Violence Against Women & Girls Alliance and also a member of Girls Not Brides. [7]

History

Blue Veins was founded by Qamar Naseem in 1999 first in order to spread information about breast cancer in communities such as Khyber Pakthtunkhwa (KPK) and Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA). [2] In 2013, Blue Veins partnered with KIOS, a Finnish NGO, to document sexual harassment "hotspots" in Pakistan. [8] This project eventually led to 46 women being able to file cases, with Blue Veins' help. [8] Also in 2013, Blue Veins launched a "Women's Manifesto", urging women to exercise their right to vote. [9]

Blue Veins helped establish TransAction in KPK. [10] In 2017, Blue Veins, along with TransAction Alliance have demanded legal protections for transgender people in KPK. [11] KPK became the first province in South Asia to have legal protections for transgender people. [12]

It has total capacity of 30,000 and it is located within walking distance from Peshawar Saddar and Peshawar Cantonment railway station.

Mardan Division is one of seven divisions in Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. It consists of two districts: Mardan and Swabi. According to the 2017 Pakistani Census, the division had a population of 3,997,667, making it the fourth-most populous division in the province, but it only spans 3,175 km2 (1,226 sq mi) of area, which makes it the smallest division by area in the province as well. Mardan, with over 350,000 people, is the division's namesake and most populous city. The division borders Hazara Division, Malakand Division, and Peshawar Division. The division does not have a single public airport.

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) people in Pakistan do not have equal rights and face social difficulties compared to non-LGBT persons. Even in large cities, gays and lesbians have to be highly discreet about their sexual orientation. Pakistani law prescribes criminal penalties for same-sex sexual acts. The Pakistan Penal Code of 1860, originally developed under the British Raj, punishes sodomy with a possible prison sentence and has other provisions that impact the human rights of LGBT Pakistanis, under the guise of protecting public morality and order. Despite being illegal, people doing acts of homosexuality are not always prosecuted by the government of Pakistan.

Pervez Khattak Pakistani politician

Pervez Khan Khattak is a Pakistani politician who is currently serving as the Defence Minister of Pakistan, in office since 20 August 2018. Previously, he served as the 16th elected Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from 31 May 2013 to 6 June 2018.

Hamid ul Haq is Pakistani politician who had been a member of the National Assembly of Pakistan, from June 2013 to May 2018.

Shaukat Ali Yousafzai is a Pakistani politician who served as the Member of the 10th Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly representing Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and as Minister for Health and Information Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in the Pervez Khattak administration. PCR will primarily serve the Metropolitan Peshawar region, with operations extending to several other communities. In August 2016, the Government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa agreed to a $1.6 billion MoU with China Communication and Construction Company. This railway is expected to resolve transportation problems in the Peshawar region and generate jobs leading to the overall economic revival of the province.

TransPeshawar or Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit is a bus rapid transit system in Peshawar, capital of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) province. TransPeshawar BRT system consists of two parts: the first encompasses an east-west corridor served by 32 stations on a dedicated lane for exclusive use by buses, while the second part consists of a network of feeder routes in which buses can enter and exit the system to travel on city streets. The system was inaugurated on August 13, 2020, and is the fourth BRT system in Pakistan.

Billion Tree Tsunami Tree-planting campaign in Pakistan

The Billion Tree Tsunami was launched in 2014, by the government of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KPK), Pakistan, as a response to the challenge of global warming. Pakistan's Billion Tree Tsunami restores 350,000 hectares of forests and degraded land to surpass its Bonn Challenge commitment. The project aimed at improving the ecosystems of classified forests, as well as privately owned waste and farm lands, and therefore entails working in close collaboration with concerned communities and stakeholders to ensure their meaningful participation through effectuating project promotion and extension services. The projected was completed in August 2017, ahead of schedule.

Under the amendment, the Federally Administered Tribal Areas (FATA) are to be merged with the province of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

Musarrat Hilali is a Pakistani judge. Since March 2013, she has been the only woman on the bench of the Peshawar High Court. She is the third woman to sit on the bench in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.

Transgender Persons (Protection of Rights) Act, 2018 Constitution of Pakistan

The Transgender Persons Act, 2018 is law in Pakistan which was enacted by the parliament in 2018 to legally provide equality to transgender people and to safeguard their rights. The law aims to legally recognise transgender people in the country. It also allows them to legally have the same rights as cisgender people. The law offers trans peoples formal equality, but non substantive equality and although the law has taken a large leap towards the equality of trans peoples in Pakistan, major cultural and infrastructural changes need to occur before this is genuinely the case.
