Robert "Bob" Santos is an American boxing trainer, [1] manager, [2] and cutman. He was named Trainer of the Year [3] [4] by both The Ring [5] and Sports Illustrated in 2022, [6] [7] [8] and is a well-known member of the boxing community. [9] [10]
Santos was originally from San Jose, California, [3] [10] where he graduated from San José High School at 17. His connection to boxing came through his family, especially through his maternal cousin, Luis Molina, who competed as a lightweight in the 1956 Summer Olympics. [11]
Santos started working in construction after graduating high school, and in his early 20s became involved in coaching with featherweight titlist Héctor Lizárraga and trainers Joe Amato and Eddie Devine. [11] Other trainers who influenced him include Joe Goossen, Emanual Steward, Ronnie Shields, Ruben Guerrero, Joe Chávez, and Chuck Bodak. [8]
In 2022, Santos trained Dominican junior lightweight Hector Luis Garcia, who secured upset victories over Chris Colbert [12] in February and Roger Gutierrez in August. He also guided Dominican heavy underdog Alberto Puello [13] to the WBA junior welterweight title and Carlos Adames [14] to an interim middleweight belt. [11] Additionally, Santos worked with multi-division titleholder Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero [1] [2] [4] and junior middleweight/middleweight veteran Erislandy Lara. [10]
Santos has worked with notable names, including Joel Casamayor, David Morrell Jr., [15] Mario Barrios, [16] [17] Rances Barthelemy, Tomoki Kameda, Livingstone Bramble, Eros Correa, and Jose Celaya. Other boxers he was involved with include top contender Luis Nunez, [18] Cuban Olympian brothers Lenier and Dainier Pero, [19] WBA minimum world champion Erick Rosa, [20] and Amilcar Vidal. [8]
In 2022, Santos was awarded Trainer of the Year by Ring Magazine and Sports Illustrated. [7] He was also nominated for the Boxing Writers Association of America's 2022 Trainer of the Year. [21] [22]
The World Boxing Association (WBA), formerly known as the National Boxing Association (NBA), is the oldest and one of four major organizations which sanction professional boxing bouts, alongside the World Boxing Council (WBC), International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO). The WBA awards its world championship title at the professional level. Founded in the United States in 1921 by 13 state representatives as the NBA, in 1962 it changed its name in recognition of boxing's growing popularity worldwide and began to gain other nations as members.

In boxing, the undisputed champion of a weight class is the boxer who simultaneously holds world titles from all major organizations recognized by each other and the International Boxing Hall of Fame. There are currently four major sanctioning bodies: WBA, WBC, WBO, and IBF. There were many undisputed champions before the number of major sanctioning bodies recognizing each other increased to four in 2007, but there have been only 19 boxers to hold all four titles simultaneously.
Roberto Garcia Cortez is a Mexican-American former professional boxer who competed from 1992 to 2001, and held the IBF junior lightweight title from 1998 to 1999. He has since worked as a boxing trainer, and was voted Trainer of the Year by The Ring magazine in 2011, and by the Boxing Writers Association of America in 2012. He is the older brother of professional boxer Mikey Garcia, who was a world champion in four weight classes.
Santos Saúl Álvarez Barragán, commonly known as Canelo, is a Mexican professional boxer. He has held multiple world championships in four weight classes from light middleweight to light heavyweight, including unified titles in three of those weight classes and lineal titles in two. Álvarez is the first and only boxer in history to become undisputed champion at super middleweight, having held the World Boxing Association (WBA), World Boxing Council (WBC) and Ring magazine titles since 2020, and the International Boxing Federation (IBF) and World Boxing Organization (WBO) titles since 2021.
The Super Six World Boxing Classic was a professional boxing tournament organized by the Showtime television network in co-operation with Sauerland Event. The tournament was held from 2009 to 2011, with all fights being contested in the super middleweight division. The winner of the tournament, Andre Ward, unified the WBA, WBC and The Ring Super Middleweight titles.
Mauricio Herrera is an American professional boxer who held the WBA interim super lightweight title in 2014.
Lenier Eunice Peró Justiz is a Cuban professional boxer. As an amateur, he won a gold medal at both the 2011 and 2015 Pan American Games, whilst also competing at the 2016 Olympics. Gervonta Bryant Davis, also known by his nickname "Tank", is an American professional boxer. He has held the World Boxing Association (WBA) lightweight title since 2023, having previously held the Regular version from 2019 to 2023. He also held the International Boxing Federation (IBF) super featherweight title in 2017, the WBA super featherweight title twice between 2018 and 2020, and the WBA super lightweight title in 2021.
Anthony David Benavidez is an American professional boxer. He has held the World Boxing Council (WBC) interim light heavyweight title since June 2024, having previously held the WBC super middleweight title twice between 2017 and 2020.
