Bobby Rock (born as Robert Brock on July 13, 1963) is an American rock drummer. [1] [2] He is known for his contributions to various bands such as Rare Earth, Vinnie Vincent Invasion, Nitro, Nelson, Hardline, Slaughter, Gary Hoey, Alcatrazz, and Lita Ford. [3] [4] [5]

Career

Bobby Rock, a student of the Berklee College of Music in Boston, Massachusetts, rose to national prominence in 1985, when he joined the Vinnie Vincent Invasion, contributing to albums like "Vinnie Vincent Invasion" (1986) and "All Systems Go" (1988) and toured with Vinnie Vincent. He went on to record and tour with Nelson during their “After the Rain” era, and has recorded and/or toured with various artists and bands, including Rare Earth, Nitro, Gary Hoey, Slaughter, Alcatrazz (featuring Graham Bonnet), Hardline, Carnival of Souls, and guitarists Brett Garsed, Neil Zaza, and Michael Angelo Batio. [9] [5] Since 2013, he has been playing with rock icon, Lita Ford. [5] [10]

Solo career

Bobby Rock has also released solo material on his label, Paranormal Records. [11] His first EP in 1994, featured original compositions and covers like "Climbing Up The Ladder" and "Frankenstein". [9]

In 1996, Bobby released his rock album "Out of Body", collaborated with guitarist Brett Garsed and Bassist Carl "The Fox" Carter, featuring covers of "Roundabout" by Yes and "Walk This Way" by Aerosmith, along with two drum solos. [12] [9] [5] [13]

In 1999, Bobby Rock released "Snap, Crackle and Pop: Live", featuring songs from a tour with guitarist Neil Zaza and Bassist Bill "The Buddha" Dickens, including new compositions and covers like "I Wish" by Stevie Wonder and "Jungle Boogie" by Kool & the Gang, along with a drum solo titled "Quadzilla". Additional solo release include "Groovin' in Tongues" (2001). [9]

Drumming Education

In 1989, Bobby Rock released two drum instructional videos, "Metalmorphosis", followed by "The Encyclopedia of Groove book" in 1993, and the video "The Zen of Drumming" in 2001. [11] [5] [9]

Bobby has received Drum magazine's Clinician of the Year award twice. [5]

Personal life

Bobby Rock and his partner, Kari Wahlgren, became parents to their son in January 2023. [14]

Alcatrazz is a heavy metal band formed in 1983 by Graham Bonnet, Jimmy Waldo, and Gary Shea. They are best known for their songs "Island in the Sun", "Hiroshima Mon Amour", and "God Blessed Video". They are also notable for featuring a previously-unknown Yngwie Malmsteen as their lead guitarist for a year, who was then replaced by Steve Vai, with whom they recorded one album.

Nitro was an American heavy metal band from Hollywood, California. Formed in 1988, the group originally featured vocalist Jim Gillette, guitarist Michael Angelo Batio, bassist T. J. Racer and drummer Bobby Rock. Nitro released its debut album O.F.R. in 1989, which reached number 140 on the US Billboard 200. Rock was replaced by K. C. Comet for the album's tour and Racer would leave the band thereafter. Nitro II: H.W.D.W.S., released in 1992, featured Ralph Carter on bass and Johnny Thunder on drums. The group broke up in 1993, with a number of previously unreleased demo recordings issued on the 1999 album Gunnin' for Glory.

Let Me Rock You is the third solo studio album released by American musician and former Kiss drummer Peter Criss. Due to poor sales for his previous album, Out of Control, Let Me Rock You was not released in the United States until 1998, when it was reissued on CD. The album was produced by Vini Poncia, who previously produced Criss's 1978 solo album. Let Me Rock You features the song "Feels Like Heaven", written by Criss's former bandmate, Gene Simmons. The album cover features Peter Criss for the first time without his Kiss makeup, as he did not appear on the cover of his solo album Out of Control.
