Body Gossip is an organisation founded in 2006 and run by Ruth Rogers and Natasha Devon [1] [2] which campaigns on body image issues, regardless of shape, size, race, gender or age. [3] [4] [5] Body Gossip's Gossip School body image education programme won the 2011-12 'Business hero - Heroic SME' award. [6] Between them, Body Gossip and The Self-Esteem Team, also founded by Devon, visit three schools each week and have provided classes to over 50,000 teenagers; they also provide sessions for parents and teachers. History

In 2012, Body Gossip: The Book was published by Rickshaw Publishing which was an anthology of over 300 short pieces from celebrities and others relating to body image issues. [8] [9] It was co-authored by the organisation's co-founders, Rogers and Devon, together with Gok Wan. [10] Body Gossip has also organised performances of sketches and monologues on a wide range of body image issues, including dermatillomania. [11] On 28 November 2012, students from the Manor School in Arbury, Cambridge performed in front of the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge in an event organised by the Body Gossip education programme. [12] [13]

Rogers' and Devon's work with Body Gossip won them the 'Ultimate Campaigners' award at the UK edition of Cosmopolitan's Ultimate Women of the Year Awards 2012. [14]

In 2013, Body Gossip organised a flash mob on the South Bank in London. Participants were given paper hearts on which they were asked to write what they loved about their body; they then displayed the hearts simultaneously at 1 p.m. Ruth Rogers said of the event: "Too many people don't have anything that they love about their bodies, and we thought we should try to encourage them to really look at themselves and go 'you're gorgeous'. We're bombarded every single day with negative imagery and unattainable perfection. No matter what you feel that you should look like, you look like you, and you can be the best version of you. You're your own brand of gorgeous." [15] In the same year, writer Jane Martinson noted in a blog for The Guardian : "Statistics from campaigners Body Gossip suggest one in 10 young people will develop an eating disorder before they reach the age of 25 (with 1.6 million currently officially diagnosed in the UK ); three children in a typical British classroom are self-harming and 30 per cent of boys and 70 per cent of girls aged 11-19 cite their relationship with their body their number one worry." [16] Body Gossip was part of an all-day event in London held to celebrate the 2013 United Nations International Day of the Girl; the organisation provided theatre and film performances based on stories submitted by members of the public. International Day of the Girl Child is an international observance day declared by the United Nations; it is also called the Day of Girls and the International Day of the Girl. October 11, 2012, was the first Day of the Girl Child. The observation supports more opportunity for girls and increases awareness of gender inequality faced by girls worldwide based upon their gender. This inequality includes areas such as access to education, nutrition, legal rights, medical care, and protection from discrimination, violence against women and forced child marriage. The celebration of the day also "reflects the successful emergence of girls and young women as a distinct cohort in development policy, programming, campaigning and research."

Ghosting, also known as simmering or icing, is a colloquial term which describes the practice of ending all communication and contact with another person without any apparent warning or justification and subsequently ignoring any attempts to reach out or communication made by said person. The term originated in the early 2000s, typically referring to dating and romantic relationships. In the following decade, media reported a rise in ghosting, which has been attributed to the increasing use of social media and online dating apps. The term has also expanded to refer to similar practices among friends, family members, employers and businesses.

The Ultimate Women of the Year awards are hosted by Cosmopolitan UK magazine every year. These awards focus on celebrating women from a range of fields including: entertainment, sports, business and music. Cosmopolitan also give awards to celebrate successful men. The awards started in 2006 and are hosted every December in the UK.

The Self-Esteem Team is a British organisation which delivers workshops in schools and colleges on mental health, LGBT, body image and exam stress. It was formed in 2014 by Nadia Mendoza, Grace Barrett, and Natasha Devon.

Natasha Jade Devon is a writer, campaigner and broadcaster. She travels schools and colleges throughout the UK and the world, including Bangkok, The Hague, Shanghai, Kathmandu, Montreux and Taipei, delivering classes and conducting research with teenagers, teachers and parents on mental health, body image and social equality. Additionally, she is involved in campus wellbeing programmes in a number of British universities including Aberystwyth University and CU London, and is a trustee for student mental health charity Student Minds. Natasha has a weekly radio show on LBC. Devon had a weekly column in the Times Educational Supplement for four years, between 2015 and 2019. She resigned suddenly in ‘solidarity with the trans community’ in May 2019 after the magazine published a front page article recommending a resource to teachers Devon branded ‘transphobic’. Natasha currently has a monthly online column for the UK edition of Grazia Magazine. She has worked closely with a number of uk charities and organisations including Body Gossip and Mental Health First Aid England. She is a patron for No Panic, a charity which gives support to people living with anxiety. In August 2015, the Department for Education (DfE) appointed Devon as its first ever mental health champion for schools but axed the role in May 2016. Devon continues to give regular evidence to the Health and Education Select Committees and is involved in political campaigning.

Natasha Oakley Australian Instagram model (born 1990)

Natasha Oakley is an Australian Instagram model. Originally known for the A Bikini A Day blog that she founded with her close friend and business partner Devin Brugman, Oakley went on to launch retail brand MONDAY Swimwear in 2014.

Body positivity Mental quality that seeks to accept oneself and ones body

Body positivity is a movement focused on the acceptance of all bodies, regardless of size, shape, skin tone, gender, and physical abilities, while challenging present-day beauty standards as an undesirable social construct. Proponents focus on the appreciation of the functionality and health of the body, instead of its appearance.

Sajda Mughal, OBE is best known as being a survivor of the 7 July 2005 London Bombings. She is the director of the JAN Trust, a charity which provides support to vulnerable and marginalised women through empowerment and raising awareness of issues relating to extremism, violence and women’s rights.

Tamsin Ford

Tamsin Jane FordCBE, FRCPsych, FMedSci is a British psychiatrist specialising in children's mental health. Since 2019 she has been based at the University of Cambridge where she is now Professor of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, Head of the Department of Psychiatry and Fellow of Hughes Hall. She has been heavily involved with the Incredible Years Teacher Classroom Management (TCM) programme, created by Carolyn Webster-Stratton, which aims to raise and improve children's mental health in primary schools across Devon. Her work also ties in with the Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ), created by UK psychiatrist, Robert Goodman.
