Boitumelo Shadrack Tshwene (died 11 October 2015) is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature. He also served in the North West Executive Council under Premiers Maureen Modiselle and Thandi Modise from May 2009 to May 2012.

Early life and career

Tshwene was born in 1959 or 1960 and was formerly a teacher by profession. [1]

Political career

He served as Majority Chief Whip in the North West Provincial Legislature and, from July 2007, as Deputy Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature. [2] Pursuant to the 2009 general election, in which he was ranked third on the ANC's party list, [3] he was appointed to the North West Executive Council by Premier Maureen Modiselle, who named him as Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Agriculture, Conservation, Environment and Rural Development. In November 2010, Thandi Modise succeeded Modiselle as Premier; she reconfigured Tshwene's portfolio, making him MEC for Agriculture and Rural Development. [6] [7] On 3 May 2012, in another reshuffle, Modise fired Tshwene and two other MECs; he was replaced by Desbo Mohono. [8] [9] He was not re-elected to the provincial legislature in 2014. [10]

Death

Tshwene died on 11 October 2015 after collapsing at his home. [11] President Jacob Zuma granted him a special provincial official funeral, which was held in Klerksdorp. [1] [12]

In August 2022, he was elected Provincial Chairperson of the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West, a position he formerly held from 2008 to 2009. His former positions include Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature (2009–2012) and MEC for Human Settlement and Public Safety (2012–2014), and he has also served in the National Assembly.

The Executive Council of the North West is the cabinet of the executive branch of the provincial government in the South African province of the North West. The Members of the Executive Council (MECs) are appointed from among the members of the North West Provincial Legislature by the Premier of the North West, an office held since September 2021 by Bushy Maape of the African National Congress (ANC).

Thamsanqa China Dodovu is a South African politician who is currently serving as a Delegate to the National Council of Provinces since May 2019. He was formerly the Mayor of Klerksdorp's Matlosana Local Municipality and served as the Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Local Government and Traditional Affairs in the North West provincial government from May 2012 until June 2013. Dodovu is a member of the African National Congress and served as the party's Deputy Provincial Chairperson in the North West from 2011 to 2015.

Sebonta Desbo Mohono is a South African politician who is currently serving as the North West's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Agriculture and Rural Development since December 2018. Since 2009, she has served continuously in the North West Provincial Legislature and the Executive Council of the North West, including as MEC for Tourism from 2014 to 2018.

Mmaphefo Lucy "Wendy" Matsemela is a South African politician who was Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education in the North West from May 2019 to December 2022. She represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 2004 to 2009 and in the North West Provincial Legislature from 2009 to 2022. While in the provincial legislature, she served almost continuously in the North West Executive Council, excepting two gaps from 2010 to 2013 and from 2016 to 2018. She resigned from the provincial legislature in December 2022 after Premier Bushy Maape fired her as an MEC.

Paul Sebegoe is a South African politician who is currently serving as Chief Whip of the Majority Party, the African National Congress (ANC), in the North West Provincial Legislature. He formerly served in the North West Executive Council from November 2010 to May 2014 during the tenure of Premier Thandi Modise.

Ontlametse Regina Mochware is a South African politician who served as the North West's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Culture, Arts and Traditional Affairs from May 2016 to May 2019. She represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature from January 2016 until May 2019.

Onewang Rebecca Kasienyane was a South African politician who served as the North West's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Health and Social Development from May 2009 to November 2010. She represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature from May 2009 until her death in April 2013. Before that, she was a Member of the National Assembly from 1999 to 2009. She was also a prominent leader of the ANC Women's League in the North West.

Tebogo Constance Modise is a South African politician who has represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Council of Provinces since May 2019. She formerly served in the North West Executive Council between November 2010 and January 2016, when she resigned from the North West Provincial Legislature to become Mayor of Ratlou Local Municipality.

Mosetsanagape Margaret Mokomele-Mothibi is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature until 2014, when she failed to gain re-election. She served as the North West's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Social Development, Women, Children and People with Disabilities from November 2010 to June 2013 under Premier Thandi Modise. She was fired from the Executive Council after she admitted that she had used public funds to attend the ANC's 52nd National Conference in December 2012.

Louisa Lorato Mabe is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature until 2014. She served as the North West's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Finance from 2009 to 2012 and as MEC for Education from 2012 to 2013. Premier Thandi Modise fired her from the Executive Council in June 2013 after she was accused of involvement in procurement irregularities.

Oabetswe Johannes Tselapedi was a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature. He served as the second Speaker of the North West Provincial Legislature from 1999 to 2004 and then as the North West's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education from 2004 until November 2010, when he was fired by newly elected Premier Thandi Modise. He also served as Deputy Provincial Chairperson of the ANC in the North West from 1996 to 1998. He was serving as a local councillor in Ngaka Modiri Molema District Municipality at the time of his death in 2021.

Howard Debeza Yawa is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature and North West Executive Council. Under Premier Edna Molewa, he served as Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Public Works from April 2004 until May 2007 and as MEC for Local Government and Housing from May 2007 until May 2009. After the 2009 general election, he served as MEC for Public Safety under Premier Maureen Modiselle. He was fired from the latter position in November 2010 by Modiselle's successor, Thandi Modise.

Raphael Leroi "Mahlakeng" Mahlakeng is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature until 2019. He served in the North West Executive Council as Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Public Works, Roads and Transport from May 2009 to May 2012 until Premiers Maureen Modiselle and Thandi Modise.

Boikanyo Raymond Elisha is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the North West Provincial Legislature until 2019. He served in the North West Executive Council under Premier Thandi Modise as the North West's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Education from 2010 to 2012 and MEC for Public Works, Roads and Transport from 2012 to 2014.

Magome Albanos Masike is a South African politician and businessman who served as the North West's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Health from November 2010 to December 2018, becoming the province's longest-serving Health MEC. He was fired from the Executive Council by Job Mokgoro and did not seek re-election to the North West Provincial Legislature in 2019. He is a member of the African National Congress (ANC).

Hlomane Patrick Chauke is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from 1994 to 2010 and later from 2016 to 2019. In the interim, he served in the North West Provincial Legislature from 2010 to 2014, including as the North West's Member of the Executive Council (MEC) for Sports, Arts and Culture from November 2010 to May 2012 until Premier Thandi Modise. He failed to gain re-election to the National Assembly in the 2019 general election.

Sizeni Grace Pampiri-Bothman is a South African politician who represented the African National Congress (ANC) in the National Assembly from November 2010 to May 2014. She has been a member of the Central Committee of the South African Communist Party (SACP) since 2012.
