Bongo family

Last updated

The Bongo family is a Gabonese and Congolese political family of Teke ethnicity. [1] Three extended members of the Bongo family (Omar Bongo, Ali Bongo, and Brice Oligui Nguema) have ruled Gabon since 1967. [2] [3] Omar served as president from 1967 until his death in 2009, and was succeeded in the presidency by his son Ali Bongo, who served until 2023 when he was overthrown by his cousin Brice Oligui Nguema in a coup.
