Bonifacio "Bonnie" Garcia is a Filipino basketball coach.

Coaching career

Garcia started his career at Manuel L. Quezon University Pythons varsity basketball team. Later, he served as head coach of AMA University and won a championship with them in 2006. [1] While he was at Pythons and AMA, he served as head coach for the Laguna Lakers in 1998 and 2001, and for Pampanga Dragons in 2000. He became the team consultant for the FedEx Express team in the PBA before becoming appointed as head coach in 2003 and served until 2004. [2] [3]

He was an assistant coach of the Mapúa Cardinals under Atoy Co, and the San Beda Red Lions under Frankie Lim. [4] [5] He was also the head coach of the Sta. Lucia basketball team in the PCBL in 2015.

He led the Colegio de San Lorenzo Griffins to the 2017 UCBL and NCR-UCLAA championships. [6] [7]

He later served as an assistant to Aldin Ayo for UST Growling Tigers, [8] and later as interim head coach for its high school team. [9] He served as an interim for the high school team until 2020, replaced by Jinino Manansala. [10]

Alfredo Lorenzo "Pido" Mendoza Jarencio is a Filipino basketball coach and former professional player. He is the head coach for the UST Growling Tigers of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP). He had coached UST previously from 2006 to 2013; he won the UAAP title in his first season and was named UAAP Coach of the Year. He is also the team manager for NorthPort Batang Pier of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and was their head coach on two stints.

The UST Growling Tigers basketball is the intercollegiate men's basketball program of the University of Santo Tomas. The school has won 19 basketball titles including one in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). They are one of the winningest teams in the University Athletic Association of the Philippines (UAAP) with 18 championships, the last coming in 2006 during Pido Jarencio's rookie year of coaching. Jarencio returned as the team's head coach after ten years since resigning in 2013. He formally replaced Bal David on February 3, 2023.

Aldin Valladolid Ayo is a Filipino basketball coach and politician who previously served as head coach for the Converge FiberXers of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He formerly played and coached his alma mater Letran Knights.

The role of active consultant, or simply consultant, in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) is the highest coaching role a foreign citizen could normally get in the top-flight professional basketball league due to the head coach role being restricted to Filipino citizens. This is due to a Court of Appeals ruling secured by the Basketball Coaches Association of the Philippines in 2002 barring non-resident foreigners from the head coach's role in the PBA. The employment of consultants by teams of the PBA has been viewed as a "loophole" to this ruling.

The 2020 UST Growling Tigers men's basketball team was scheduled to represent the University of Santo Tomas in the 83rd season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines, but then the COVID-19 pandemic struck and it affected all sporting events worldwide. The rest of the UAAP tournaments in the second semester of Season 82 were discontinued and eventually terminated in April 2020. A belated opening of Season 83 was planned for January 2021, but the UAAP board eventually decided on cancelling the entire season amid the continued community quarantine measures that would affect the athletes' training and social gathering in general. This was the first time since World War II that an entire season is cancelled by the league.

The men's basketball tournament for the academic year 2021-22 began in the second semester on March 26, 2022, and the host school for the season was De La Salle University.

Bonnie Tan is a Filipino basketball coach. He is the head coach for the NorthPort Batang Pier of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He is also a Freemason of the Grand Lodge of the Philippines. He last coached Colegio de San Juan de Letran's men's basketball team of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines) (NCAA)
