Colegio de San Lorenzo (CDSL) was a private Catholic college located in Barangay Bahay Toro, Quezon City and in Macabebe, Pampanga. It opened in 1988 in Quezon City and the branch in the founder's hometown of Macabebe opened in 1996. [1]

On August 15, 2022, Colegio de San Lorenzo announced it would be closing down and would cease operations by September 2022, citing financial instability and lack of financial viability due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The sudden announcement of its shutdown, on what would have been the school's first day of classes, brought negative responses from parents, students, and employees alike. [2] [3]

Gritty Griffins

SanLo's varsity team, the Griffins, is a member of the Universities, Colleges, and Schools Athletic Association (UCSAA) and the Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association (UCLAA). The senior basketball team won the UCSAA championship in four consecutive years, 2012 to 2015. [4] They also won the Universities and Colleges Basketball League (UCBL) title in 2017. Jonjon Gabriel, a Griffin basketball player, went on to be selected in the first round of the 2017 PBA Draft. [5] In 2018, their basketball team was disbanded. [6]

The NCAA basketball championships are the basketball championships of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (Philippines) (NCAA). There are two tournaments, usually held at the same time, the seniors' tournament for male collegiate students, and the juniors' tournament for male senior high school students. United Calabarzon Collegiate League (UCCL) is a collegiate sporting league exclusive for colleges and universities based in the Calabarzon region comprising Cavite, Laguna, Batangas, Rizal and Quezon. The UCCL established in 2007 as the North Batangas Open League. Among the sports who are included in the league are basketball, volleyball, beach volleyball, football, and chess.

The NCR-UCL Athletic Association was a collegiate sports league based in the Philippines. The NCRUCLAA was a result of the merger between the two fledgling leagues, the National Capital Region Athletic Association and the Universities and Colleges of Luzon Athletic Association, in 2016. Lack of teams played in both leagues were the main reason of the merger.

The 2018 UST Growling Tigers men's basketball team represented University of Santo Tomas in the 81st season of the University Athletic Association of the Philippines. The men's basketball tournament for the school year 2018-19 began on September 8, 2018, and the host school for the season was National University.

Sidney Nelson Onwubere is a Filipino-Nigerian basketball player for the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA). He is a former star player for the EAC Generals. He was selected by the Phoenix Fuel Masters in the 2017 PBA draft, but was traded to the TNT KaTropa the same day.

The 2017 Letran Knights men's basketball team represented Colegio de San Juan de Letran in the 93rd season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association in the Philippines. The men's basketball tournament for the school year 2017-18 began on July 8, 2017, and the host school for the season was San Sebastian College–Recoletos.
