Bonthu Rammohan (born 5 July 1973) is an Indian politician who was the Mayor of Hyderabad from 2016 to 2020. [1] He belonged to the Telangana Rashtra Samithi party,but moved to the Indian National Congress in February 2024. [2]
Bonthu was born in the village of Amanagal in the district of Warangal to Venkatayya and Kamalamma. [1] [3]
He married Sridevi on 7 February 2004 and has two daughters,Kujitha and Ushasri. [1]
He completed his primary and secondary education in Mahabubabad and later attended SSC Junior College for his higher secondary education. Bonthu initially attended Adarsh College in Warangal for his tertiary education,but later transferred to Osmania University in Hyderabad. [1]
As a student of Osmania University,he took an interest in student politics. He was an ABVP leader in his time in university and was quite active in the organisation. [4]
His political career started in 2002 just after the TRS party was born with an agenda to achieve separate statehood. He left the ABVP to join the TRS and participated actively in the agitation. This eventually led him to being appointed the TRS Youth Wing State President by party chief K. Chandrashekar Rao. [1]
Rammohan campaigned for the Uppal seat in 2018. He was one of the active participants in the TRS party Bahiranga Sabhas.
Rammohan and his wife Sridevi Yadav,the Cherlapally division corporator,joined the Indian National Congress in the presence of Deepa Dasmunshi,the AICC in-charge of Telangana,on 16 February 2024. [5] [6]
The Bharat Rashtra Samithi,formerly known as Telangana Rashtra Samithi,is an Indian political party which is predominantly active in the state of Telangana and currently the primary opposition party in the state. It was founded on 27 April 2001 as by K. Chandrashekar Rao,with a single-point agenda of creating a separate Telangana state with Hyderabad as its capital. It has been instrumental in carrying forth a sustained agitation for the granting of statehood to Telangana.
Boianapalli Vinod Kumar is an Indian politician and former Member of Parliament,presently serving as Vice-chairman of Telangana State Planning Board. Kancherla Keshava Rao,popularly known as KK,is an Indian politician from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi party. He is a member of the Rajya Sabha,the upper house of the Indian Parliament. Kothapalli Jayashankar,popularly known as Professor Jayashankar,was an Indian academic and social activist. He was a leading ideologue of the Telangana Movement. He fought for a separate state beginning in 1952. He often stated that unequal distribution of river water was the root cause of the separate Telangana movement. The early 2011 Telangana protests refers to a chain of events that took place during the early months of 2011,after the Srikrishna committee report was submitted to government of India. These protests are part of Telangana movement. The Telangana political JAC declared the launch of a non-cooperation movement throughout Telangana,including the state capital at Hyderabad,starting on 17 February. The plan was to request government employees not to work;people not to pay taxes or utility bills;people not to buy tickets while using public transport;to organise rallies;to block traffic on highways;and other measures. It is reported that Congress party's central leadership told Telangana MPs that it will take a decision on Telangana after assembly elections in several states in May. On 24 February,Telangana political JAC organised Egypt-like mass protests in Hyderabad beginning 10 March. Projections for number of people to be mobilised varied from one to five million. Protesters raised slogans of 'Jai Telangana',sang pro-Telangana songs,and played games. Protesters included activists of various political parties,students,government employees,lawyers,doctors,teachers,journalists,writers and cultural artists. 48 people were arrested for the vandalism of the statues. A Telangana leader said the incident show the hatred towards leaders of Andhra and he fears more such incidents if the central government further delays the process to carve out separate Telangana state. Osmania University students warned non-Telangana staff of the university to not pass on the identities of agitators to the police and warned them they could become targets if they did not join the agitation.
